Some county financial records declared off limits to auditor
Shelby County Commissioners want to know who gave an order to ignore certain financial records of top officials.
County Commissioners have taken it upon themselves to investigate the excessive credit card and travel expenses that has been making headlines for months now, particularly that of Mayor Jim Rout's former top aide Tom Jones.
Today, commissioners on the finance committee met with their outside auditing firm to ask why abusive spending did not raise a red flag during their audits.
Representatives from that firm say once the report gets to them, they assume those records have already been cleared at the county level.
And they told commissioners the county's internal auditor was instructed to ignore the expense accounts of top county officials, including Jones and former Mayor Rout.
Walter Bailey, County Commissioner said, "For people we suspect in high administrative positions to tell the auditor to look the other way gives us all grave concern."
Tom Cates is the county's internal auditor.
Commissioners plan to ask Cates who instructed him to ignore those accounts.
Rout is a RINO he worked to defeat the GOP canidate for mayor and to defeat Van Hilleary...behind the scenes.
