Number one ... if they really had several nukes already here ... they would have used them. Why do a 911 airplane attack when you have a nuc? That alone pegs the Bravo Sierra meter all the way off the scale. So, I do not believe this report or this man's bravado.

I believe that is where the Muslims are headed. Unless some Muslim leaders can suddenly arise and put an end to Wahabbism, I think there is no hope for Islam. They will either conquer the globe and establish their worldwide Caliphate, or non-Muslims will have to destroy every last one of them.

Let us assume, for the purposes of argument, that the nukes are real. If the nukes are the crude types used by Pakistan, the initiators are most likely polonium--and polonium initiators last about a week. After that they decay so badly that they generate a fizzle.

If the nukes are XUSSR, then they're a wee bit more modern, and use deuterium-tritium initiators. These last somewhat longer, but still need replacing after a few months, because the tritium decays to ³He₂. This isotope of helium has an enormous appetite for neutrons; even very small amounts will cause a fizzle. We had (and, presumably, so did the Russians) many thermonuclear tests fizzle because of helium contamination in the 1950s.

BTW, tritium is VERY tightly controlled, because it costs about $50,000 an ounce on the open market. (The tritium in your watch dial or compass is a very tiny fraction of an ounce.)

In other words, once you have a nuke, unless you have adequate facilities for maintaining the nuke, you either use it, or it decays into uselessness in very short order.

A few years back, I heard that the Iraqis got suckered by some Russian Mafiya types offering to sell them nuclear warheads, and that Saddam's folks got ripped off for 10-20 megabucks.

These folks don't understand why we are the "land of the FREE and the home of the BRAVE..." I am sure Gibson's portrayal of an American father at war in "The Patriot" is rather confusing to them.

I have very little doubt, we WILL use nukes again in our lifetime. America may be brought down one day. But our NATURE is one of rebelling against oppressors no matter the cost, to the last man, woman and child. They have NO idea how fiercely independent and stubborn we are. Viscious and brave, with ZERO fear at the event horizon.

If I were an islamaniac, I would take little comfort from the president's mantra of "islam is peace"... W ain't exactly stupid. They think we don't know... we do.

(The hoax aside) One thing overlooked is how utterly futile it would be for the Islamists to want to disrupt the U.S. economy. The "world's breadbasket" would be empty for them. That would be suicidal. The value of all their years of carefully calculated preplanning of attacks would go up in smoke, and that even before a military response. Dumb.

And to make the point even more realistic - did you notice that today the Bush administration is actually debating the issue of stopping food shipments to North Korea? Just imagine how devastating that could be.
