TEHRAN -- The Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei here Monday called on officials to step up efforts to address people's problems, warning that if the three branches of the government fail to do so, he himself would intervene to mobilize the people to act on their own.
Ayatollah Khamenei, in a meeting with state authorities, called the three branches of government as the basic tools of the leadership in satisfying the supreme goals of the Islamic Revolution, promoting justice and fighting corruption and discrimination.
He cautioned the Executive, the Judiciary and the Legislative to consider people's needs in their efforts, and to refrain from activities that would give a pretext to the enemies of the state.
The Leader stressed that the situation of the Islamic Republic is currently more sensitive than before regarding the prevailing international developments. "The possibility of the enemy's military attack against the country, although dim, still exists," he warned. "But we should anyhow be vigilant against enemy's efforts to develop insecurity and stir an internal collapse inside the Islamic Republic."
Elsewhere in his remarks, the Leader highlighted the need to reinforce national solidarity, and warned officials of any measure that would develop public mistrust in the system.
Ayatollah Khamenei recalled the efforts by the global arrogance to harm the causes of the Islamic Revolution over the past two decades, saying such efforts have always failed thanks to the strong faith of Iranians in thwarting evil aspirations. "The animosity of the world's major powers with the Islamic system does not mean the whole world is opposed to us, and that Iran is living in isolation," he said. "Only those parties that consider the Islamic establishment in Iran to be a threat to their interests are our enemies."
Also at the meeting, President Mohammad Khatami described religious democracy as the greatest success of the Islamic Revolution, calling on the officials to consider the Constitution as the criteria in their efforts to strengthen the system, as a successful example of religious democracy.
