The way I understand it, Princeliberty, Sanchez became frustrated that he was not drawing much support beyond Hispanics and blacks, and he lashed out at whites in West Texas. He said people there would not support him because of his "heritage." He was also hurt by insisting that Dan Morales debate him in Spanish. The more Sanchez spent, the further behind he seemed to fall. Kirk, however, was more conciliatory toward whites and did campaign in West Texas. Then Kirk made an unfortunate remark about most of the soldiers in a war being of "minority" background. Ultimately, the Republican stronghold in Texas was firmly rooted. The 2002 elections were even more sweeping for the GOP than in 1998 because redistricting of the legislature in 2001 made more seats competitive. The Republicans gained 16 seats in the state House and 4 in the state senate (there had been one vacancy). One of the 19 Republican state senators is very liberal, Jeff Wentworth, R-San Antonio.

What is worse is that the Democrats do not see it as such or expect us not to see it!

So the overwhelming majority of blacks and hispanics are suppose to vote for 'racial' candidates but 'white' voters are suppose to ignore that.
