A lot of us have wondered the same thing, mrustow. Two things come to mind, though. Either it's because it was a black on white crime, or, they didn't think that the public could handle the vile, heinous crime that it was.

Had whites committed such a crime, the media would not have doubted the public's ability to handle the facts.
