Kerry has five distinct advantages: 1) he has a very rich wife, with an estimated net worth of $500 million; 2) for what cross-ethnic appeal is left in a state that just elected a Mormon governor, his father was Green Irish and his mother was old-line Massachusetts WASP; 3) he's articulate; 4) he's a decorated war veteran, even with his subsequent antiwar activities; and 5) he has "Kennedy hair". I suspect there's a lot more depth to John Kerry than the vacuous boob from North Carolina, John Edwards (not the intelligent one who communicates with the dead on TV).

I think his war record is a wash. He's told some lies about what he really did to get those decorations and his lies, not his deeds, make him look like less than a hero.

Had he told the truth about who he killed and why, he would be seen as an honorable combat veteran.

Your points 1-5 well taken...
"I suspect there's a lot more depth to John Kerry than the vacuous boob from North Carolina, John Edwards..."

Yes, and that's exactly what worries me. But upon rereading the Glob article, he appears to both endorse and criticize a war with Iraq. Again he says that he's liberal in some things and conservative in others. Well, what is he then? Hopefully when Kerry is pressed to say what he really believes in, and his legislative record is scrutinized, it will become plain that he's just another tax and spend dem with unruly hair. also Mass. politicians are not viewed especially kindly by the Rest of the Country.

...the vacuous boob from North Carolina, John Edwards

One of the better descriptions I have read of our clueless senator, who in his 1998 campaign promised voters that he would vote just like Jesse Helms.

NC voters this year got the same kind of message from Irksome Bowles, who promised to uphold North Carolina values. Yeah, right,

Kerry also has certain baggage that could easily hurt him in the presidential election. Massachusetts has 11 US Congressmen and of course 2 US Senators. All 13 of them are Democrats and all are wealthy white males. If there was ever a state to point to the hypocrisy of the democrats claim to sharing power with minorities, Massachusetts is the best.

Here's my assessment of John Kerry:

Likeability: 0
Appeal to the Heartland: 0
Conservative votes: 0
Chances of beating Bush: 0
