During the years of the arrival of the boat people from Southeast Asia, social workers had to impress upon the men that it was not acceptable to beat women in this country, regardless of their own customes and culture; this is America. Why the Europeans coddle these immigrants and allow that behavior in their countries is beyond me. It is actually a form of paternalism and racism.
