I guess I'm naive; that hadn't occurred to me at all. I was thinking the pubs wouldn't want to impede their own president's agenda, even if they couldn't stand up to Slick at the height of his popularity.

Do you think their recalcitrance during impeachment was motivated more by the herd mentality or by true believerism?

Many of the RINOS are in a balancing act, in which they have a liberal constituency at home, but a conservative President. This will make the relationship rocky to say the least. What needs to occur is for the Republicans to win MN, SD, and LA in December - that way there is a safety margin.
