danny boy....

You're not starting out very well here -- you're debating like a Democrat, starting out with ridicule and name-calling. Odds are I'm old enough to be your father.

please...the only thing libertarians help is their own little wimpy egos...egos strong enough to throw a temper tantrum and take their ball and go home...

Once again, you're making the mistake of thinking that people who vote libertarian (or any other third party) are "throwing a tantrum". As I explained, they're not. They have rational reasons for voting the way they do.

Since you're apparently unable to grasp it the first time around, let me explain it in three short simple sentences:

1. They're not as wild about Republicans as you are; therefore, it's hardly irrational for them to not vote for same.

2. They, like you, vote their conscience, which (gasp) happens to differ from yours.

3. By pulling enough votes from the two major parties to affect the election outcomes, they gain enough political clout to cause both parties to sway towards the positions they desire (unlike, say, blacks, who keep voting for Democrats no matter how often they get screwed, and thus keep getting taking for granted and get more of the same).

In short, they vote for their preferred candidates for the same reasons you probably do.

It does you no credit to throw your own little snit about the fact that some voters happen to choose candidates other than the ones *you* like, and to declare them isane for it. In fact, it bespeaks of an enormous arrogance on your part, and it's not pretty.

by electing demorats, you are asking and going to get MORE govt...MORE laws...MORE taxes....MORE infringement on personal rights not less...

...until the Republicans stop acquiescing on the very same points, and start growing enough of a spine to win back the libertarian voters. This is the part you're missing.

you lose....no matter what you say.....you lose everything with the dems in control...

Unfortunately, the Republicans have given in on too much of the same. At least the libertarian voters are refusing, on principle, to support it.

Let's view this from a different perspective: I'll presuming that you're staunchly pro-life. Quick, now, would you vote for a Republican that was blatantly pro-choice, even if he was slightly less pro-choice than his opponent? Why or why not?

That's how principled libertarians feel about voting for Republicans just because "they don't give away our rights quite as fast as the Democrats".

Your mileage may differ (as well as your preferred "hot button" issues). But you only sound foolish when you froth at the mouth over someone failing to vote the way *you* would vote.

however, I am sure the dems will give you your drugs and your kiddie porn, because that is about all you libertarians seem to care about....

What are you, twelve?

Child, I voted straight-party Republican today. What does that do to your immature little preconceptions?

You owe me an apology for attacking me with your disgusting insults merely because I tried to explain why a libertarian vote is note a "wasted" or "idiotic" vote if one happens to care about libertarian issues. For my non-partisan political analysis, I get accused of "only caring about drugs and kiddie porn". Apologize now, if you have any honor whatsoever. I expect one post haste.

Or perhaps you have far fewer principles than those you accuse...

And no matter what, grow the hell up. Your post was disgraceful and inexcusable on intellectual, moral, emotional grounds.

"1. They're not as wild about Republicans as you are; therefore, it's hardly irrational for them to not vote for same. "

actually, I seriously doubt anyone here is wild about Republicans just because they are Republicans....

but you vote the way you got to vote.....that may mean voting for people that you don't necessarily love just so the ones you really hate and distrust don't get elected...

imo.....we have too many all ready in office that represent some very evil ideas and evil people....

no way will I make it easier for those kinds of people to be elected...

The Libertarian Party has been saying what you wrote about shaping the debate since I was a libertarian some 25 years ago. During this period they have remained mired at around 3% of the vote nationwide and have had almost no discernible impact on the nation's ongoing political debate.

As one who likes to see my ideas yield results, I wouldn't call that acting on rational principle. I'd call that being unable to cope with the give and take of the political arena and being more interested in winning sophomoric word games than being held responsible for the logical consequences of one's electoral behavior.

I have come to conclude that the Liberatrian Party is nothing but a collection of the pseudo intellectual utopian wierdoes of the right. Like the socialists who are the bane of the Democrat Party, Libertarians are famously inflexible, they jeer at the intellectual capacity of those who dare disagree with them and they are convinced that if only the rest of the fools in the world would turn power over to them, they could build what would be be close to an earthly paradise.

And that is why I finally grew up and became a Republican.
