For a comprehensive truthful explanation of "Smart Growth" please read Randall O'Toole's "The Vanishing Automobile" or check out his web page:

http://i2i.org/Other/iv/otoole2002/Index.htm

He wrote another book about reforming the US Forest Service.

"Smart Growth", another dumb liberal idea doing exactly what it was intended to do.

Smart growth is a code word.

I live in a city and I like living in a city.

Most of my friends prefer living in the suburbs (I can't imagine why, but it's their choice).

The city is dying as productive taxpayers leave. Smart growth is the means by which nazi city-dwellers can "force" the suburbanites back in (they think).

If city living can be made more attractive, then people will wish to relocate here. Up until this point, no one's figured out how to do that in large numbers.

So, let's just legislate it and call it environmental protection. Done.

I hope every one reads this and checks out their state, before they hit the polling booth today.
They are trying the same thing here, with buffer zones on all rivers and creeks, taking land from the farmers and property owners. They say it is being done to save the salmon. The county commissors have tabled it again, with out acting on it, but I believe there is a time line when they will have to. They want 150 feet on each side of rivers and creeks, with trees planted for shade, so the water stays cool for the fish.

This was becoming a big issue in Louisiana when I lived there several years back. Every pothole or low spot was considered a "wetland" after it rained. And so many people were bailing out of New Orleans and moving to the northshore of Lake Pontchartrain (Slidell, Mandeville & Covington), that Mayor Marc (keep one hand on your wallet) Morial and his socialist minions were doing anything they could to force people to stay in the city, starting with the city workers.

I moved out to Arizona four years ago and we are going through pretty much the same nonsense here. Instead of wetlands, it's pygmy owls and other such absurdities. Personally, I like my pygmy owls roasted to a golden brown with plenty of Tabasco sauce.

Madfly, it's a shame your article generated so few posts. This issue is one of the keys to the preservation of the Republic, but it's not appearing on most people's radar.

I suppose they are all too busy being distracted by the globalists with the sniper nonsense, Iraq, and the latest market rollercoaster ride.

Something I haven't seen posted either is yesterday's attempt by CNN to Link the Michigan Militia to al-Qaeda Training Camps in South America. It sure has become a strange world since Mr. neo-Conservative became the President.

4/19!
