BILL SIMON ON OLVERA STREET: ONE HOT GOP TAMALE!
Cinnamon Girl

Posted on 11/03/2002 5:53:03 PM PST by Cinnamon Girl

It was a great day for a FREEP! As the campaign approaches the big day, Bill Simon is looking good and sounding better than ever. With freepers RonDog, daviddennis, Palo, Tony from Hawaii, and others gathered at the historic Olvera Street (which is like a Latin shuk) Bill Simon and the GOP ticket took the stage after a great performance by the Bill Simon Band, and urged everyone to GET OUT THERE AND VOTE ON TUESDAY.

Lots of t.v. cameras and news reporters were present. (I'm sure I'm not the only one who was interviewed by the AP.) RonDog, dressed in a shirt and pants, was working the crowd--

And let's all take a moment to give it up for Ron, who has been getting the word out about pro-Simon rallies, and anti-Davis rallies, and really giving it his all so our man could win. YEAY, RONDOG!!!

Pictures will be posted shortly, I hear. Thanks to everyone on FR for all your hard work for all the GOP candidates.

Do I believe Bill Simon can win?

YES. If we all do our part and call at least our friends and family who vote Republican.

TIPS FOR CHICKS:

As is my tradition, I will be filling out my sample ballot and giving it to all my girlfriends so they know how to vote (sorry, chicks, but you know how it is.) And I'll be offering to watch my friends' kids if need be so they can take a moment to vote. And for any of my friends from NY who still haven't learned how to drive, I'll offer to take them to the polls.

I wonder if that's the same chick who interviewed me...
I saw the AP's Erica Werner at OLVERA STREET, but I would like to think that it was NOT Erica who interviewed you.
She is at least SOMETIMES neutral...
Erica is a brunette, short - kind of an "East Coast intellectual" type, seen here - I think - in this FLATTERING (!) picture of OUR guy at the Long Beach Chamber of Commerce speech:

I **think** that Erica's face is barely visible at the far left,
and she is wearing a red blouse under a black jacket, with pen in hand.

Not sure that I know Alexa, but I **think** that she is the redhead in the CENTER of this picture, looking at her tape recorder
Do you recognize either of them?

If Erica's hair also has an auburn tinge to it, and she's short, then it was her.

Actually... the only thing incorrect is your cynicism. We need Simon in Sac. Four more years of Davis' Dem's will kill our families... literally.

An initial set of photos is at my page on the freep. (Right now there's nothing but photos there).

I'm hoping to have the video done by tomorrow morning - anyone who wants to add the pictures to the thread body is, of course, welcome to do so.

I would like to comment on that news article: Everyone I saw at the freep was extremely enthusiastic about electing Bill Simon. Sometimes, I'm not sure if the news actually attends the same events we do :-(. They would have had to go a long way at this event to find such a sour apple.

Enjoy, everyone!

There's a very nice contrast between this event and the Pasadena freep for Gray Davis for Firefighters.

At the FireFighters' event, the speeches were dull, drab and completely passion-free. Not here.

At the FireFighters' event, people applauded the speakers tepidly. The only time you got any kind of fight in them at all was when they mentioned our protest!

At our event, the applause, enthusiasm and cheering were awesome! Thanks to the freepers and others who made it happen!

Nice pics. Why would the firefighters have a rally for Davis? They aren't Dems.

The message is clear, Davi$' campaign has run out of , dare I say it, ENERGY!!!

Simon is just getting warmed up! He is a very personable, warm human being who will serve us well as Governor.

They are union people, though, and Gray Davis has done a lot of pandering to union groups.

I don't think they are as uniformly Democratic as Davis wants to think; at least one of them gave us a honk on his way out, even though he had Gray Davis signs in his car.

My guess is that you get into a bit of trouble with union brass if you don't toe the (Davis) line.

I finally got around to putting my lawn sign up - Tony handed one over to me today, so I finally have one planted.

There were between 700 and 800 enthusiastic supporters at the one in San Diego this morning!

You were at the San Diego GOP rally, too? I only saw Jimbaugh up on the camera stage, and didn't see any other Freepers there. There were just too many people there. I hope you used sunscreen and didn't get sunburned. I forgot, and my right arm was red after the rally. The many hundreds of people there were very enthusiastic.

In the afternoon, I took my homemade "Fire Davis" and "Dump Dioxin Davis [with Blinky, the 3-eyed fish cartoon drawing]" signs to Camino del Rio South, in front of the Scottish Rite Center (where the Simon/Giuliani rally took place October 13th), for the benefit of the Davis supporters arriving for his rally and for the people leaving the computer show.

Very few people were there to protest against Davis, and none were Freepers. Besides me, there were

I was afraid to go inside, but the other protesters said there were only 50-60 Davis supporters. What dismal attendance for Davis. Another supportive man who wasn't protesting but who had also attended the GOP rally also counted a similar number. He borrowed a Davis sign, perhaps to edit the right sides of them to say "experience, values for sale," or otherwise to file them away for safekeeping and protection from damaging UV rays.

I got many thumbs up and supportive words from people leaving the computer show. A very small fraction of Davis supporters gave 1-fingered salutes to the man with the "Dump Davis" stickers, but they just pretended to ignore my signs. They have enough manners not to offend a lady, but they're just a little misguided in their politics. Some arriving people even smiled and agreed with my dioxin sign; maybe they just wanted to catch a last glimpse of the soon-to-be-Ex Governor before he is committed to an insane asylum.

I saw two white limousines and one black limousine, all with black privacy windows. They went around to the back of the Center, and so did the chartered buses. It figures Davis wouldn't enter through the front door -- just like the Clintons. If Davis was in one of them, he was about 90 minutes late.

Message to Associated Press and Erica Werner

Erica, your story and quote by Gray Davis is laughable in the context of the non-partisan report from Children Now (published just a few days ago and apparently unnoticed by you)

I've just put up 3 signs strategically placed to catch all the parents racing up and down our street on the way dropping off and picking up their kids from a Christian elementary school.

Tuesday Morning, the refuse carts will be brought forward for a full assault on all traffic in and out of this combat sector ... urrr... neighborhood.

I saw my 3rd GraYouT sign today in the neighborhood. I just don't see any real support for Davi$ around.

Probably several hundred at LA rally at least

Plus, there were people popping their heads out to enjoy the rally from surrounding buildings.

Is there a post-FReep thread about San Diego this morning?
If not, can one of you POST a report?
And, Jimbaugh, would you please post some PICTURES? Or at least, some of your VIDEO?

Just saw the coverage on KTTV Channel 11 in Los Angeles. They showed Davis campaigning in a church, attempting to clap his hands in time to a gospel choir...

And then they showed us! 100 times the energy of the Davis snooze-a-thon, and the DUMP DAVIS stickers on people's back showed up very nicely. Great idea, RonDog!

The trash was picked up at 7:30 AM, in my neighborhood. And, for rest of the day, my beautiful blue trash can shall sit at the curb! I figure that at least a hundred cars will have to see that bright red "DUMP DAVIS" bumper sticker before sun down. The can and the sticker, they just seem to go together.

Anyone else out there have a bumper sticker story/suggestion?

LOL! It's called "guerrilla FReeping!"
I learned THAT idea from a MASTER promoter, who was also at our rally today, and was PERSONALLY recognized - from the stage - by our next Governor:
"EVERYBODY needs a Joe Kung!"

Simon uses forum to rip governor's fund-raising

By Amy Chance -- Bee Political Editor

Although the official purpose of the Asian Pacific Islanders forum was educational,
Joseph T. Kung of Orange County was in campaign mode Sunday.

Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Simon, continuing to press Gov. Gray Davis on his fund-raising practices, called on his Democratic opponent Sunday to release a complete list of high-speed-rail advocates invited to a fund-raiser at the home of the rail authority's chairman...
