Airport shuts as volcano erupts
Ecuador's Reventador volcano erupted today, spewing a cloud of hot ash into the air and forcing the closure of the airport and a highway near the capital.
The white ash fell like snow throughout Quito.
The 11,775 feet volcano is 59 miles northeast of the capital on the eastern slope of the Andes.
The eruption also threatened the Trans-Ecuadorian oil pipeline that runs close to the area. The bulk of Ecuador's oil is shipped through the pipeline from the main sites in the Amazon to the Pacific Port of Balao.
"It was a very important eruption. Extremely large clouds of ash have been spotted, at least seven miles high and the cloud is heading toward the Inter-Andean corridor," Avarado said.
People living nearby had been evacuated been evacuated, she said. The closest villages are San Rafael and Manuel Galindo, with a combined population of less than 1,000.

Hapgood had the idea that the earth's crust shifts around from time to time. It is a gradual thing taking 3000 years or so per event, but it gets kind of noisy where the crust sticks to the mantle. Otherwise, the crust will float fairly smoothly. When it starts, there is plenty of seismic activity. Have you checked your global position lately? You could be headed toward a different climate.

Volcanos and quakes are breaking out all over. I thought it was just me noticing. Are there really more incidents or are they just getting reported here on FR more often?

"Have you checked your global position lately? You could be headed toward a different climate." That's what I've been hinting at beginning with Etna.
