I lost a lot of credibility by defending Newt Gingrich until I found out about his personal life. All I say now is while I'd love my Republican candidates to have wonderful personal lives, I put them in office because of how they vote. Most of the time the Republicans are better than the Democrats anyway, and I don't look to them for moral guidence. I look to them to save me from terrorists that want to kill us and not tax me to death.

I can't go quite that far. Character does matter. But an uncontested divorce followed by remarriage does not warrant the reaction that I am seeing, either. Seems overly punitive and, dare I say, "holier than thou". I guess I am missing something. I hope someone explains the circumstances better.
