First off, we need to vote against those who voted to raise the H1B quotas to where they were allowed to overrun our IT companies.

I voted for Keyes in the primary, and many here voted for others than Bush. If I had known GW was all for replacing American workers with foreigners, I would have voted against him as well...

I voted for Keyes in the primary and did a write-in for him in November. I saw it coming after listening to Bush from minute one.

This may just be a topic for another thread, but in case anyone is still reading this thread up to here, there's something that everyone ought to know.

The MAJOR influence behind the push for the H1-B visa flood is the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA). If anyone were to visit their website, they'd see that they are VERY big on pushing for "diversity" in the workplace. Isn't that supposed to be a "plank" on the Democrat platform?

It's a known fact that MOST of the money that these workers make goes back to their families at home. This removes that money from the US economy. There is an estimated 1 million H1-B computer professionals in this country. If we take an average pay of $80,000 a year for a US worker, then that equates to $80 BILLION a year leaving the US economy

Stick to software work. Ecomonics isn't your forte.

Although politicians have created the illusion that SOCIAL welfare was the MAJOR cause of the deficit, it has in reality been CORPORATE welfare that's been the MAJOR cause of our debt.

You're both wrong, of course - but it's hard to stop a good socialist rant when it starts....

This is what I suggest. File a US District Court suit agaist ANY company that you've sent a resume to that hasn't responded that has hired H1-B aliens within the past 24 months. In fact, I'm going to look into the laws and see if there is a federal statute that requires them to hire Americans before they hire aliens. If there is, I'm going to ask for everyone concerned to start filing charges against those companies that have violated the law.

As a consumer, I purchased life-time computer tech support from Gateway. They now have a huge division in India and I have had so much trouble understanding the techs. They are polite and try to be helpful, but drive me nuts, as we go step by step to get to the problems on my computer. When I ask them to "repeat" something, they say, "ahh,.." and then RE-phrase instead of RE-peat, confusing me more. When I nicely say that I would like to talk to someone else because I absolutely cannot understand them, they will not give up. I sometimes end the call and redial, but 9 out of 10 times I get patched into the India office. They even use American names, like Fred Smith and Gary Brown. I think I need to look at my contract and make a complaint.

HB- 1 Visas as well as illegal immigration should be a rallying cry for real Americans.

People who migrate here not to be American, but to make money love them. People without morals love them. Democrats love them and illegal immigration for potential votes.

Republicans love them for cheap labor. It sucks - Where are the people who will represent Americans on this issue. They are not to be found in any numbers.

I've been in the software development biz for a while now. I can corroborate your statement by saying the problem lies with American management. Very rarely do they understand the problem they are trying to solve and the solution, most of the time, is to hire more workers. Since they are under a tight budget, most of the time, they hire cheap labor.

I've sent out hundreds of resumes with only three interviews and no offers. Congress back stabbed American workers in their search for funds and their march towards globalism. Hitech workers would likely benefit from unions and collective bargaining. In the past, stock options, a label as a 'professional' and an abundance of jobs kept the unions out. Time to rethink the case for unionizing hitech.

Same here, but with NO interviews since last year. I have 17 years experience in C and C++ along with a myraid number of operating systems and applications. I'm SERIOUSLY thinking legal action.

You & others w/real life exp. are 100% correct. I know because of 30+ yrs. in international HR consulting w/an employment-staffing expertise that has earned me a place in Who's Who In the World for last 10 yrs.
The drain of living wage jobs has been relentless thoughout all of my career--we (and the rest of the world) have always had indentured workers of various kinds, but the current disasters started w/off shore manufacturing that few of us worried about because we were only to glad to buy the cheap goods it produced. (Remember the 1970s plea: "Look for the union label"?)
Then, female-dominated office/white collar jobs were negatively affected by a combination of inefficient but popular technologies (Where did the promised "paperless" office go?) & crappy, low-bid temp contractors & outsources like Manpower, Kinkos, Pitney Bowes, Wachenhut, et al (Where are the improvements in service they promised?)
All these & more were touted as another advance in just-in-time hiring.
Now, after a brief respite during the dot.com bubble & in specific areas of the country at different times, the on-going destruction of the "permanent job" (ie: stable, long-term employment at a compensation package suffient to have a dignified, middle-class existance) that attacked blue, white & pink collars has reached gold collars...tech & other skilled, educated, professional jobs (incl. medicine, law, acctg, teaching, etc.) w/HB1s only one of the factors.

What of unions, you ask? Corrupt, I answer. And foolishly focused for too long on dying industries plus, at best, suffering in the wilderness because of the mistaken snobbery of those who thought of themselves as professionals aligned w/the upper-most tier of management. (Big mistake. Just ask anyone from Andersen what their CPA & 80 hr weeks have bought them in the way of security).

As for the shortages that caused (sic) HB1 mania, there is no real labor supply gap--never was, in spite of our shrinking "native" birth rate, only a shortage of educated workers & avenues for affordable, practical retraining for the displaced & those w/outmoded skills. We, as a people, have failued to recognize the truth of what was happening to us & take care of business. Now we are paying for it.

Answers: Don't blame those who take advantage of our weaknesses. Save your money. Get out of debt & into the faces of legislators, political parties & trade/professional associations to force reversal of open border policies; create professional unions; demand good public schools; demand tax cheats/employers (of all sizes!) hiring illegals be punished...and...never again fall for the illusion of "team oriented/people focused" organizations.

It's dog eat dog & will be forever, no matter how much we & our bosses wish it weren't. We just have to deal with it!
