How is it a hunger strike if she allows herself liquids? I mean, heck, what's the big deal about refraining from solids only?

She began her fast Oct. 7 . . . and lost more than 14 pounds during her protest

In 3 1/2 weeks, I lose more than 14 pounds by just cutting out the sweets and walking every day.
