A completely stupid thesis. Why on Earth would McCain switch, when by remaining in the GOP as a "maverick" and being a big pain in the butt, he gets all this fawning, slobbering media attention? Or, to put it another way, when was the last time Jim Jeffords was on Meet The Press?

McCain switch to the Dems? Don't make me laugh.

Right on. The only thing McCain really believes in is McCain, but I think he is smart enough to recognize that the media loves him as "maverick" because it hurts the Republicans, but he has too many non-left-wing views for them to love him as a Democrat.

Jeffords was never seen by crats to be useful beyond his abandoning of the Republican party. McCain, on the other hand might well be seen as giving the crats a real shot at the presidency in 04.
