O'REILLY SPOUTS OFF ABOUT ALLEGED INS SNAFU IN SNIPER CASE
Daily Journal (Indiana) ^ | Oct. 31, 2002 | BRYAN CORBIN

INDIANAPOLIS

TV journalist Bill O’Reilly blasted federal immigration officials for releasing juvenile sniper suspect John Lee Malvo last year instead of deporting him back to Jamaica.

In a speech Wednesday, O’Reilly reiterated allegations he aired on his FOX News program this week: that an Immigration and Naturalization Service agent altered an arrest report, allowing Malvo to be released after the Border Patrol had arrested him last year as an illegal alien.

Malvo, 17, is the alleged accomplice of D.C. sniper suspect John Allen Muhammad. The pair has been arrested and charged with 13 shootings and 10 deaths in Maryland and Virginia earlier this month.

Last year, Malvo and his mother fled Jamaica and illegally slipped into Washington state as stowaways on a ship. They were arrested by Border Patrol agents. But the INS bureau chief in Seattle took the Border Patrol arrest report and changed the charges against Malvo, O’Reilly alleged.

The result was that Malvo was not deported — and then joined up with Muhammad on their alleged killing spree.

The INS agent’s actions “allowed John Malvo to get out of detention and run around this country — and you know what he did,” O’Reilly asserted.

O’Reilly is the blunt and outspoken host of “The O’Reilly Factor” on FOX News Channel. He’s known for his confrontational interview style and for tackling topics other media outlets won’t touch.

Although usually described as a conservative, O’Reilly denounced U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft — a Republican — for refusing to comment or to announce an investigation. Both the INS and the Border Patrol are under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Justice Department, which the attorney general heads.

“The reason is, he’s arrogant,” O’Reilly fumed. “They (politicians) don’t want anybody — you or me — telling them what to do. They lose sight of the fact that we are their bosses. They work for us; we don’t work for them. Their duty is to protect us.”

Speaking to a packed house Wednesday at Hilbert Circle Theatre in Indianapolis, O’Reilly argued that the INS needs a complete reorganization. He suggested the U.S. military be deployed to secure America’s borders with Canada and Mexico.

“We have (U.S.) troops guarding South Korea from North Korea on the border. We have troops in Bosnia keeping the Croats from the Serbs. We’ve got troops in Kosovo keeping the Albanians from the Serbs. Why can’t we guard our borders?”

Such measures would stop illegal immigration and greatly diminish narcotics trafficking, he contended.

O’Reilly — who often hearkens back to his Irish-Catholic roots in New York — was quick to add that the vast majority of undocumented aliens “are the nicest people on earth, who you’d love to have living next door to you.” But a small portion is criminal, he said.

“What if the sniper had been in Indiana instead of Maryland, Virginia and D.C.? What if your family — what if you — had gone out to work that day or gone to Ponderosa and – bang – you got a bullet in the head from a guy who should have been deported — who (the INS) had?” O’Reilly said.

“And then you find out that the INS agent on his own falsified this (Border Patrol arrest) report — and then you find out the attorney general won’t even investigate it. How would you feel?”

A Border Patrol agent appeared on “The O’Reilly Factor” Tuesday and leveled the allegations about the INS agent setting Malvo free last year.

Having criticized Attorney General Ashcroft on the air, O’Reilly expected harsh reaction from his viewers. But of 10,000 e-mails sent to FOX News Channel since the show, only about 100 chided O’Reilly for blasting Ashcroft, O’Reilly said.

O’Reilly defended his program as a watchdog on government.

“On ‘The Factor,’ we have to keep these people in line — and embarrass them sometimes,” he explained.

O’Reilly’s speech was sponsored by American United Life Insurance Co. and the Indianapolis-Marion County Public Library Foundation.

Howdy

Schtick? SCHTICK?????

Whan an INS official breaks the law to facilitate the release of an illegal alien over the objections of the border patrol, and ten American citizens and up dead, I do not believe your focus upon the messenger who brings this eggregious abuse of the American People's safety makes any sense whatsoever.

On the contrary, if you wish to criticize media, why not take aim at the "mainstream" media, which is absolutely silent.

Fact is, the corruption of bill clinton continues to reap a harvest of misery and death to America, and the demorats STILL continue to obstruct the government in its primary duty, to PROTECT AND DEFEND the American People.

God Bless Bill O'Reilly for being the lone voice telling the plain truth.

I'm beginning to find O'Reilly's schtick very annoying.

I'm beginning to find the number of screw-ups by the feds getting very annoying. The FBI, due to political correctness, buried information that may have let to the 9/11 hijackers being exposed. On FOUR occasions, citizens voiced their concerns about Muhammad to the FBI. The INS had this screw-up. And then profilers somehow managed to convince the heads of the sniper investigation that they were looking for some white male nutbar, which led DIRECTLY to cops letting Muhammad go when they had him in their hands.

And Ashcroft tells us nothing. He owes it to the American people to start cleaning up the leftover Clintonista mindsets festering in the agencies under his control. He's had nearly two years. He's had over a year since 9/11. But apparently, things ain't in any hurry to improve.

I couldn't agree with you more, that "There comes a point when government officials have to stop bitching about how awful the previous administration was and take some steps to fix it."

But in this instance, when INS personnel can't be fired, and systems can't be changed by the stroke of a Presidential pen, and we've got an obstructionist democrat senate, then we have to have patience.

In the meantime, the more people who are reminded about Gore's intentional corruption of government agencies, the better. As long as Gore remains a potential presidential candidate in 2004, as long as he holds power of persuasion and kinship with the DNC, we've got to make cerain the voting public is well informed. Clinton's crimes are now irrelevant, no need harping on him, (except for fun), but Al Gore is a different matter. Same goes for Hillary.

Sungirl, O'Reilly did have something to say about the Wellstone memorial campaign rally. It was on the Radio Factor today.

But in this instance, when INS personnel can't be fired, and systems can't be changed by the stroke of a Presidential pen, and we've got an obstructionist democrat senate, then we have to have patience.

But the problem I have with this is that they are just excuses for inaction. Yes, they are all true, but the problem is something must be done. Try to fire one of them. Fight the union thugs in court. I may be naive and overly optimistic, but personally I think if people saw what sort of incompetant losers the unions support they'd be more likely to side with the President.

Make the guy that let Malvo get away the poster boy for the whole thing. Besides the legal issues, you also have an appeal to emotion, which works in public debate. I don't want the GOP to become a dishonest sleaze machine like the Democratic Party, but it is possible to make an emotional appeal and use other tricks of public debate while still being honest and standing by one's principles.

I fully agree that people need to be reminded of how much Clinton screwed up the INS etc., but I think the best way to do it is to try and do something about it, then publicize why it didn't work - not just do nothing and say that's why you aren't trying.

I don't care if they are the nicest people in the world, I don't want them living next door to me. They already broke several laws to get here. They can be "nice" in their country of origin, I want to know if they are Marxists, I'm sure there are some "nice" Marxists in social situations, but I don't want them voting, manipulating the direction the country heads in, and living under the table, not paying taxes and sending their kids to public school.

They can start being nice to me by leaving and staying gone. Clean up their own darn country and make it livable, don't screw up mine.

Because as far as I am concerned, to sneak into my country and demand political clout, is no different what so ever, than my coming home from work, opening the door and finding that they have taken over the kitchen. This is our home, not a flop house, our culture, which has proven far superiour to all others, thank you very much, and does not need to be added to, or subtracted from unless we say so by popular vote.

Any would be politicians out there? Want to win hands down? Run on the immigration issue and it's in the bag as far as millions of Americans are concerned.

Army gives Fort Baker to National Park Service(FOUNDATIONS AT THE PRESIDIO,UNITED NATIONS)
SAN JOSE MERCURY NEWS ^ | Oct. 31, 2002 | By Marilee Enge

Army gives Fort Baker to National Park Service

With San Francisco's skyline shimmering across a perfect blue bay, the Army formally handed Fort Baker over to the National Park Service on Wednesday in the last swords-to-plowshares land transfer in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

The 91-acre waterfront site near Sausalito joins the Presidio, Fort Mason, Alcatraz and five other military posts that once guarded the Bay from enemy attack and are now regarded collectively as an urban parkland jewel that sets a national standard for military conversions.

"This is truly one of the prettiest places in the Army," said Army Col. Richard Conte. "Fort Baker will be a remarkable national park, with its rich history and natural setting."

Founded just after the Civil War, the post was once intended as part of a "triangle" harbor defense, along with the Presidio and Alcatraz. But it never launched an attack and was better known for the stately red-roofed mansions that housed Army brass in a village-like setting between oak-studded hills and the Bay. As recently as last year, it was home to an Army training regiment.

Fort Baker's 47 historic buildings, most dating from the turn of the century, are slated to become a retreat and conference center, similar to Asilomar in Monterey.

The nonprofit Fort Baker Institute will conduct public programs relating to conservation, recreation and resource protection, in keeping with the Park Service's mission. And park officials plan to restore a small beach along Horseshoe Cove, improve hiking trails and add picnic areas.

The event also marked the 30th anniversary of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, established by Congress in 1972 to protect the dwindling wildlands around the Bay and bring national parks to a city population. It is the largest national park in an urban setting, with 75,500 acres stretching from Tomales Bay south to the Phleger Estate in Woodside.

Two of the most pivotal figures in its creation, parks advocate Amy Meyer and former Sierra Club president Dr. Edgar Wayburn, received a standing ovation Wednesday when park Superintendent Brian O'Neill introduced them as the "mother and father" of the recreation area. The two collaborated with the late Rep. Phil Burton to make the park a reality.

"It, in effect, brings parks to the people," said Wayburn, 96. "It's something we had never done before."

As an honor guard retired the Army flag Wednesday morning, the Air Force Band of the Golden West played "America the Beautiful," appropriate on a day when sunshine sparkled on the Bay and dignitaries welcomed the newest addition to a park system established to protect America's wild and beautiful places.

"It's so extraordinary," said Doug McConnell, who was chosen as master of ceremonies because his TV show "Bay Area Backroads" frequently celebrates the lands in the recreation area. "It's easy to take it for granted."

I e-mailed O'Reilly, about a month ago, about a border patrol agent who was on temporary assignment to the Blaine border and claimed that he had made 50% of all the arrests in the time that he had been here. He was wondering if the same policy was in effect here as in San Diego, that is that agents were told to stop but not arrest any illegals because they didn't want the numbers on the books. They said that it didn't look good to have so many people getting throught the borders. (This guy told the story to family, who live in the Blain area)

Albanian and Russian observers sent to monitor American elections

Democrats see hopes of revenge in Florida dwindle
The joke, during the endless presidential election recounts in Florida two years ago, was that Russia and Albania would send poll monitors to help the United States with its unexpected bump on the road to democracy. Now, the joke has become reality.

A high-level delegation of European and North American election observers – including members from Russia and Albania – arrived yesterday for a week-long mission to watch Florida's mid-term elections, which take place on Tuesday.

Their task: to see if the world's most powerful democracy has learned anything from the disastrous 36-day showdown between George Bush and Al Gore in 2000, in which the world saw every wart in Florida's deeply flawed electoral system without ever discovering for sure who had won.

Certainly, the Russians and Albanians know a thing or two about flawed, rigged or fraudulent elections. After receiving a decade of lectures from Western democracies about overhauling their own systems, they also have a good idea how to overcome them. It remains to be seen whether Florida isn't too tough a nut to crack, even for them. "Whatever else it is, it will be an experience," said a tight-lipped Ilirjan Celibashi, head of Albania's Central Electoral Committee.

Mandated by the OSCE, the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the 10-man delegation will not be manning polling stations. However, that might not have been a bad idea, given the experience of the presidential election and the more recent Democratic primary, when voting machines again malfunctioned and hundreds of people complained of being disenfranchised.

Rather, the team will look at the broader picture of Florida's electoral laws, how they are applied, and the ways in which US practices fall short of the stringent requirements imposed on emerging democracies in Eastern Europe and elsewhere.

This is the first time international monitors have gone to the United States. The OSCE's Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights has been campaigning for some time to improve electoral standards in some of the older, established democracies

Illegal immigration is the "It's only about sex", issue of the Republican party. They are trying to pass it off as a non-issue. They gey plenty of help from the Democreeps and the media. No one in our party's leadership want's to even discuss this issue. If Pat Buchanan had a chance I would vote for him.

Buchanan-Savage for president!!!
