Right church, wrong pew. Instead of giving them a test they can get clean in time to take, tell teens you're going to suspend their licenses for 3 mo. for the first offense, six months for a second, and a year for subsequent offenses. I suspect that would work far better.

Why doesn't this silly statist broad just get it over with and put the chip in the hand or head?
If the REASON is good enough, any infringement on individual liberty by the state is not only legitimate and good, but REQUIRED for the "good" (as defined by those in power) of the collective. Just ask: Stalin, Hitler, Mao, or Jiang.
The drivers license argument is a red herring. Cant wait for all the statist vomit to come from the ignorant, intellectually vacant, emotional soccer mom, flag waving, brown shirt, useful idiot man-girls.

The march of government tyranny continues.... Presumed guilty until proven innocent; guilty of anything means guilty of everything forever until the end of time.
Excellent modern day Republican interpretation of basic Orwellian principles. This man's wife is highly likely to occupy a Senate seat for 6 years after next Tuesday.
With Republicans like these who needs DemocRATS?

OK! Fair if there is drug testing for all those that win office for U.S. Senate.

I don't know... I always kind of chuckle when I hear these proposals for revoking a license for First we had DUI/DWI, then failure to pay child support, last year it was soliciting prostitution, now we have failing drug tests. The fact is, and I know from experience working in a county courthouse, that most people just continue to drive without a license. In fact I would say 75% at least. Some people do it just to spite the law, most though have no other choice -- Jobs. I realize this requirement is for first time applicants for drivers licenses, but I believe the effect would be the same.

Elizabeth Dole wants to require all teenagers to pass a drug test before getting a driver's license.Excellent idea, Liddy, but PLEASE tell me you're not favoring this at the Federal level.

Funny you should mention that. There was a State (I think it was Georgia) that passed a law requiring all candidates and potential judges to pass a urine test. As it happens, the U.S. Supreme Court finally found a case where they thought drug testing was unconsitutional, and struck it down. I guess it becomes too intrusive when they get around to testing your own.

It's a "losing battle" only in your own mind.
The "Drug War" is favored overwhelmingly by the populace. The fact that you and the other Libertines sit around muttering and moaning about it doesn't change that fact.

Not only is she a grabbing liberal RINO (replacing a conservative giant) but she's an irrational statist twit as well.
No wonder Darth Sideous refused to vote for her, and got banned for it.

So Dole's proposing a federal law?
I sure am glad the GOP's running such a staunch conservative. < /sarcasm >
To: NittanyLion
Do you think the GOP really cares? Bigger Government is just fine as long its furthering their social agenda.

Do you think the GOP really cares? Not at all, so long as they're controlling the stick.

That's less government?

Here she is suggesting a State Law. Why isn't she running for the State Legislature?
I'm all for having a Republican Majority in the Senate, but likewise, so is Tom Daschle in favor of one for his own party. Therefore, we get Dole and Mondale. Talk about a blast from the past of failed ideas and characters.
The primary system is so full of poor results that we are stuck looking at candidates that defy common sense.

No, she's promising to propose a Federal law to force the States to adopt this measure, no doubt by hanging Federal Highway Funds over the State's heads.
