ABC, CBS, & NBC Nightly News Coverage of Wellstone "Memorial Service"---ALL NEGATIVE!!!
Self | October 30, 2002 | PJ-Comix

Posted on 10/30/2002 3:47:07 PM PST by PJ-Comix

I quickly channeled surfed all three of these Networks a few minutes ago and they ALL had negative stories about the Wellstone "Memorial Service." This looks to be a backfiring PR disaster for the Demmycrats if even the liberal networks have no choice but to report negatively on this.

BTW, CBS led into the story about that "Memorial Service" with a silly negative story about how Norm Coleman was somehow besmirching the memory of Paul Wellstone because he flew around Minnesota today in the same kind of jet that Wellstone used when he crashed. That's the worst they can say about Coleman?

I held my nose and forced myself to watch the network news tonight and was pleasantly surprised.

I think Mondale is done, unless Minnesotans are as depraved as the assclowns in that theatre.

It's not only stupid. It's wrong.

Wellstone et al died in the crash of a twin engine prop aircraft.

How did this play on the radio show circuit (i.e. Rush Limbaugh)?

Rush's tone was somber. Part way into the show he said "you can probably tell I am almost speechless over this".

He was not gleeful that the democrats had disgraced themselves. He sounded horrified at the spectacle he had witnessed. He played clips and took calls--the clips really speak for themselves.

"Now, don't underestimate the importance of this. imagine how many judges could get confirmed in a lame-duck session with a republican majority. which there would be (given cheney as tiebreaker) if Ventura goes ahead with this. and suddenly jumpin' jim becomes the invisible man he deserves to be.

That would be the Right Hand of The Lord God Almighty getting Himself the victory for this nation of people "called by His name"...

CAUTION! Never forget the other "Jumpin' Jim" by the name Lincoln Chafee (RINO-RI) who has vowed to jump if there is a 1 vote Republican majority...

Those DimRATs really blew it. I don't understand how they were dumb enough not to use the same tried and true Carnahan pity method, crying up to election day. All they had to do was go out and get all weepy and light some candles, and the soccer moms would swoon. It would have had the GOP coffin nailed shut by election day. Instead they threw a party. Dumb.

The Republicans, imo, are doing exactly the RIGHT thing here. They need to take a low profile. If they criticized at all....overtly criticized....THEIR comments would become the story. The PEOPLE are driving this story...which is just fine. The major players in the GOP have made their view known....Lott walking out for example....now they just need to stay out of the way of the story,

Not a good day for the RATs. I haven't heard one positive comment from anyone in the media.

Rush was disgusted. Said Wellstone would be rolling in his grave. I believe Rush spent the first hour and a half on this topic.

Even Paul Harvey's news cast had a negative piece on this memorial political rally.

If Jesse Ventura's reaction is reflective of MN's undecided voters, Mondale is toast.

It's been a great 24 hrs. Thank you Bill, Hill and Terry.

It's almost like they can't wait to dance on Wellstone's grave. They would if they thought it would get them votes.

When a caller asked what the problem with the "service" was, if this was what the family wanted, he said that her question was indicative of the problem itself, that we used to have common standards of decency, of "how to go on" in certain situations, and we have lost that.
What this did was slap a cold hand of reality across the romance stricken faces of the voter who had bought into the myth of Wellstone as being this great principled liberal of conscience. Although it isn't really being said much, everyone realizes that the problem isn't that Wellstone would have been appalled at the display; quite the contrary, had Tom Harkin been the one dead instead we likely would have seen Wellstone leading the partisan display. This is who they are. This is what Democrats teach their kids about respect and dignity and propriety, as shown by the juvenille populist cry of "we will win" from the junior Wellstone. The problem is that the Democrats don't know any better, can't see what was wrong with what they did, and simply don't understand that America not only doesn't share their outlook and attitude, but that America is repulsed by it whenever America sees it clearly.

Last night was Paul Wellstone's legacy, and it put the progressive liberalism of the Democratic party into clear focus, and the people are repulsed.

I have seen several so-called Republicans on TV today, including the so-called GOP consultant Scott Reed, basically say "No big deal". Can you believe their idiocy????

Sorry, but the GOP is playing this exactly the way they should be. The Dems have messed up big time, so badly that even the liberal media are making our case for us. And one cardinal rule of politics is that when your opponent is in the process of committing suicide, do not do anything to distract him.

When you say "basically say", is it possible the republicans are keeping their distance from the issue so as not to reverse the big old boomerang effect?

If they start to denounce and criticize you know which tack the story will take. The story has gotten huge press, negative press, to the point of apologies being issued and Geri Ferraro being directed to go on tv and say it was because the sons planned the event and not the DNC! (source: She appeared on Fox today and there is a thread about same).

The numbers must be appallingly bad and the best thing the republicans can do is keep their mouths shut on this matter and proceed with the campaign.

It's interesting that Minnisota voters are so discusted that Walter Mondale's poll numbers are now almost double digit to Coleman's Probably too much to hope that Republicans had a chance in Minnisota...

The poll was taken before the "memorial service" and skewed 51% to Democrats.

The Senate doesn't reconvene until Nov. 12 and has somethings it needs to get done. I don't see how an independent will change things that much during the remaining few days the Senate will be in session. The Dems still control the votes with a 49 + 1 Ind. vote right now so if the MN IND voted with the GOP it would be a tie that would be broken by the VP. In addition the MN appointee is only supposed to serve until the elected candidate on Nov. 5 can be certified. But with court cases that may can take some time. Never the less it's going to be an interesting post election season it seems.....
