The White House yesterday insisted that Vice President Richard B. Cheney was not snubbed when the family of the late Sen. Paul Wellstone declined his offer to attend last night's memorial service.
Instead, the family begged off because of the logistical problems that would be created by the vice president's intensive security protocols, said a senior administration official.

"The family was honored and grateful, but didn't want the circus," said the official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity.Whoever was quoted here didn't manage to catch the 3 ring circus that this event actually turned out to be. I would wager that the veep would not even have been noticed there. The camera was too busy watching out for the likes of billnhill and their ilk as they whooped it up.

C'mon, that's BS. The fact of the matter was that it was a staged political event, not a memorial service -- complete with every shrill organ the Democratic party could wheel out.

Apparently, the DemocRATS snubbed Cheney because they didn't want anyone with any class at the "rally".

The Billary Clintons come with SS protection and security protocols.
They didn't want the current VP outshining their dethroned VPs in attendence (both of whom made failed attempts at running for the Presidency).
It was a political rally. Too bad that they couldn't con Leni Reifenstal into filming it for them.

There are few things more irritating than "true believer" liberals from Minnesota/Wisconsin.
They are so "tolerant" and desirous of "diversity"...and cock-sure
they are better more enlightened than anyone else on the planet.

The word circus is the perfect description of what happened last night in the Peoples Republic of Minnesota.
If the clintonized Wellstone clan couldn't stomach a visit from Vice President Dick Cheney, the White House should've sent Jenna and Noelle Bush, a case of Budweiser, Barney Bush and a pooper scooper.

The Well-stoned crowd in Minnesota probably would've thought up a few mildly creative chants, utilizing Cheney's first name.

I watched most of this Dim political lovefest on C-SPAN. Cameras occasionally panned to Hill and Bill, who was in his best camera mugging mode.
It's actually a good thing that Cheney did not attend. He would have had to endure the boos of the crowd as they flashed his picture up on the big screen.
If this event was covered by local TV in Minnesota, it could actually backfire on Mondale. The tone was clearly political and partisan.

Once again the Democrats cement their image as the party of narcissim.

Good article.
I saw some of the political orgy that this thing became on CSPAN yesterday and the news tonight. The raw crassness of it took my breath away.
The Democrats should be ashamed of themselves, especially the way the Clintonites have been bleating about "civility" the last couple of years. There was as much civility at this thing as at a Nazi party rally.
The bereaved Wellstone family doesn't have completely clean hands either. Despite the magnitude and suddenness of the tragedy, they should have seen this coming. This thing was done in their name and in the name of Paul Wellstone. I didn't know him, only his politics, which I didn't agree with. But if he was half the mensch everyone said he was, he wouldn't have been pleased with this. And he shouldn't have been.
I hope Minnesota voters respond to this tasteless travesty with a strong backlash against Mondale. I felt like I was watching something other than Americans as I watched that thing.

The bereaved Wellstone familyI saw NO bereavement.
None.
Not in the slightest.
The boys started planning this soon after they anxiously opened his will.
