In addition gas tankers usually have multiple tanks within so they can carry more than just one type of octane fuel.
If you could get one to go, you could get them all to go.
Not so sure how prone stainless would be to sparking when hit by a lead slug but if you got it to leak something would probably ignite it.

Actually they don't, I've seen\cleaned up after them when they've been penetrated by a wrench falling off another vehicle and when they've gone off the shoulder on a road boardered by a steep rocky wall which pierced the side.
