Innis states, "After 2002 is over and [presidential adviser] Karl Rove gets a chance to exhale, Republicans are going to seriously look to get vehicles for their message/ And the best vehicles are candidates." Yes AND no.
Of course you want a vivrant, articulate, tough-minded candidate who appears to be genuinely concerned about constituents. But we fall into the mental trap set by the Left when we automatically assume that a candidate must be black for black voters to accept him or her. This is nothing more than another form of identity politics. We lose that game.
I swear, I could write a book on this subject.
