Hi Diva...
Why are flyby's not allowed......good question.
You might enjoy SAMWolfs or Flyvet's comments on this one.
My take on it is from the response during WW-2....the military did not like the pilot thinking it was his plane to play with.....sort of.."Its Government property...Dammit"!

A open flight window[Unannounced and unconfirmed] past a carrier is a violation of launch and recovery protocals..the planes movement near the carriers deck could cause a bystander to move from the sudden event and find oneself in danger or overboard...
Finally...the carrier commander knows that his GE TOASTER spontainiously catches fire at home....
GE..[General Electric] make the engines for the U.S. carrier jets....giggle!

That and it's a potential risk of an expesively trained pilot and plane.

Thanks for the info, LS. Well I guess it's understandable since I'm sure those planes must cost a fortune. But I think the pilots will not intentionally try to damage their planes. I think that they develop some sense of attachment or ownership if you will to their planes. Right? Like the captains of the ships.....something akin to owning a car - I have an old one but I can't imagine letting it go even if I can afford to buy a new one. It will always be my baby. I think fly-bys are still cool though. I would love to see one someday.
