CNBC Network just took a major hit (unclear what)
CNBC ^ | 10/29/02 | OReilly

Posted on 10/28/2002 11:35:44 AM PST by OReilly

All video lost for several minutes... only audio. You could hear folks in the control room saying what was that, I have never saw that before. Guys in the control room were saying, Dirty Bomb? Nuke?... over and over again. Someone said I think it was a major power hit. Weird listing to TV with no video. They are back with minimal video at 2:26:00. People on edge for several minutes

LOL. It can't be the first. They should be used to that by now. LOL

If CNBC took a hit, how did they do on the other side of the building? (MSNBC is in the same building in Ft. Lee as CNBC)

Apparently nothing more than a power hit... gees don't these guys have back-up power. People in the control room seemed to think their backup power system should have kept them on the air. (they were (on the air) but just audio and no one knew it)

I find it amazing that anybody noticed they were even off the air.

The aural carrier (audio) & visual carrier (video) are generated separately then combined (in a combiner of all things) to be broadcast. If the visual transmitter, exciter or intermediate amp takes a hit or has a failure then, you can have audio without video or vice versa. If they hear a loud noice in the control room, it was likely a filter capacitor or transformer exploding. Just a speculation based on experience.

Dirty Bomb? Nuke?..

Did they count the flash to bang time? I didn't think so. Why would a terrorist knock out CNBC? It puts most of its viewers to sleep anyway.

Hey, maybe the Russians should have used a broadcast of CNBC instead of whatever gas they pumped into the theater.

" CNBC Network just took a major hit (unclear what)"

I would think that it is obvious what happened, somebody at the station hit the BS filter on the main feed, to-whit they lost all abilities to publish their spin on the worlds affairs.... Duh!
