Yes, the madness of juggernaut egalitarianism, the same runaway madness that inflamed the Jacobins to heights of depravity unknown under the aristocracy they displaced. It was that fear of Procrustean "leveling" that prompted Burke et. al. to reject the egalite of the French Revolution in favor of a moderated, restrained meritocracy.
