Their 1990 blue Chevrolet Caprice— a killing machine with holes in the boot to fire through—was first noted by police on October 3, just 24 hours after the first killing.

Hmmm, "holes", plural. Anybody know whether News of the World is right that there was more than one firing hole in the trunk (= "boot," Britspeak for "trunk").

I heard there was one hole for the barrel, one for the scope.

A hole "the size of a coke can" wouldn't be large enough to accommodate the muzzle and sight path of the rifle described. Either two holes or a larger hole would be required.

K-k-k-k-k-k-keystone cops!

How could the cops at the road blocks miss a vehicle with a hole that appeared not rusted, but CUT, in its trunk?
