Besides 50 Chechen assailants reported killed at the theater — some with an apparent execution-style bullet to the head......

The Russians don't mess around!

If I see a poisoness reptile in my home I don't call the ACLU to ask about its rights. I kill it immedidately.

Government film of the aftermath showed dead female hostage-takers sitting in red plush theater seats, in black robes and veils, heads thrown back or bent over, indicating they may have been shot while unconscious. Precisely placed bullet holes could be seen in their heads. One had a gas mask on her face.

Good.

Somehow the Muslims will turn this around and make it seem they were the victims here.

It will be interesting to see how much more supportive the Russians are of the Bush coalition. Austrailia, Russia... is there a French terrorist attack planned on French soil. Blowing up the French tanker didn't seem to concern the French very much.

But the German foreign minister, Joschka Fischer, tempered such congratulations with a call for a stronger push for negotiations in Chechnya...

Perhaps Joschka can go there and then negotiate his own release from a Chechnian pit!

The Russians are holding out because Iraq owes them billions and they are maneuvering to get into a favorable position to get their money.

The French are holding out because... well, because they are French. I'm sure that in the end they can be bought off.

90 is a high number and I would never even want to see one innocent person die. Imagine though the number had they not stormed when they did. I think in the future though they could save even more lives if they storm in sooner. They know that they will never meet the demands so why waste the time.

Were the 90 all killed with gunfire or did the terrorists set off the explosives?

The Germans have become more French than the French, a pack of poodles.

Man, if you'd asked me back in 1980 if I'd ever be cheering for the Russians, I would have said you were crazy. Amazing how things can change in a couple decades.

The only thing that could've made that statement *any better* would've been:
Execution style, i.e., with a porkfat soaked  bullet to the head

"Were the 90 all killed with gunfire or did the terrorists set off the explosives?"

I don't think they were able to detonate the explosives. Sounds like some may have died from the gas, don't know though.

Russia "cannot be forced to its knees," President Vladimir Putin (news - web sites) declared afterward on national television.

I would not want to be a Chechen right about now. Support for prosecuting this war to the fullest possible extent must be quite high in Russia following this act of terrorism.

No, they don't seem to have been able to set off their explosives.

Several countries were involved in the rescue: US(secretly), Britain, Spain, France and Israel (secretly), among others.

We've got to stay together or Islamic terrorism is going to swamp us.

NBC news is saying that they will not tell the Doctors what kind of gas was used. Interesting

Actually, one can make the case that our friends, the Saudis are the prime source of terror in the world. Funding is the key and they fund everything. But Saddam will do for now.

And Russians feel the same way; use al-qaeda and saudi arabia interchangeably. They've been fighting jihadis since Afghanistan.

It's us who've been potraying the chechen struggle as legitimate.

And Putin & CO, are just holding out for the right financial arrangements - playing with the resolution helps him across the world (like France) while knowing that BUsh will assemble a coalition if the UN says no.
