What restrictions are placed on your ownership of the pistol? Are you allowed to keep it in your home? Can you target shoot and reload on your property (I'm basing this question on your "farming area" comment)? What about travelling with the firearm on your person?

Yes, you can reload at home. Although there are limits on how much material you can have at home. You can exceed the limit for a period of time. I still shoot clays on my father-in-law's property when I visit the UK. His property is less than 0.5 acre, borders some fields and he has permission from the local farmer to over-shoot the fields.

What about travelling with the firearm on your person?

This law is tougher, the weapon has to be locked in a suitable container when travelling through public areas.
