Petty may be a liberal, but his statements here are very good. A few of them are pretty good, such as his stance against hip-hop lyrics and sexualizing young girls. However, his profit-phobia is kind of silly.

Yeah, he does seem to come across as anti-profit, but his remarks are actually a warning to profit-only concerns. Business is about profit, but the way many venues are going after profit hurts future profits. In others words, they are taking profit today at the expense of profit for tomorrow, which is not very smart.
I think he is saying that profit is good, but not when it is taken without regard to the total picture of the industry and its ability to make profit.
Take professional sports. Most people cannot afford season tickets anymore. Even a simple basball ticket down third base outfield here in Denver at Coors Stadium costs $27. Dog and drink: $8. Profit is good, but it can also kill my desire to buy their products.
