I doubt Minnesotans would accept not having a Senator for that long until January- three months.

Suggest you re-read my post, to wit: Depending on the victor in the election, they should be seated immediately. By this I meant to have the victor of the 11/05/02 election seated as soon as confirmed. This puts the victor in office in November, not three months later in January and in plenty of time for a lame-duck session.
