Shep on Fox reported a signature 5 stars began each sniper letter, and that it was related to a band with lyrics about death. Couldn't find the band or lyrics but someone else may be able to.
Of course it may be related to this as well:
Ibn `Abbas said that `Ali b. Abi Talib said to the Messenger of God: You are like my father and my mother! You have mentioned the course of the retrograde stars (al-khunnas) by which God swears in the Qur'an, together with the sun and the moon, and the rest. Now, what are al-khunnas? Their circulation to the Day of Resurrection is as quick as the circulation of a mill because of the dangers and tremors of the Day of resurrection. This is (meant by) God's word: "On a day when the heaven sways to and fro and the mountains move. Woe on that day unto those who declare false (the Prophet's divine message)."
He was probably recruiting, a la Johnnie Taliban, the Tampa acne kid, dirty bomb Padilla and who knows how many others.
The speculation is that they represent a popular band in Jamaica called The Five Stars Band or similar names.
Google spat out a few hits under "Five Star Band." Here's a link to an east African paper that mentions the band.
Then I broadened my search and came upon lyrics by the rap group called Killarmy which is essentially the Wu-Tang Clan. Here's a sample:

A lot of things are suspicious. What's with the fake witness(still in jail)...is he connected some way?
