BATTLING ISLAM IN AMERICAN PRISONS By Dan Wooding Founder of ASSIST Ministries Sunday, March 10, 2002 ORANGE, CA (ANS) -- Dr. Bob Morey, founder and president of Faith Defenders based in Orange, California, has said that one of the greatest mission fields in reaching Muslims in America is the U.S. Prison System.

In a letter to his supporters, Dr. Morey said, "They [the prisons] are filled with prospects from ethnic communities and hurting people. While some leaders lament the heavy population of African-Americans and other ethnic minorities in our prisons, Muslims rub their hands together in glee at the prospect of converting them to Islam. And they're doing it."

Dr. Morey went on to say, "In fact; Muslim organizations from other countries are spending millions of dollars each year to infiltrate our prisons and carry out a massive campaign to convert Christians and non-Christians to Islam. They're setting up Islamic Study Centers with extension activities in the prisons, and placing chaplains in our penal system.."

Dr. Morey said that "a significant number of our [U.S.] prisons already have Islamic chaplains and a plethora of outreach programs...."

SADLY THEY ARE VERY SUCCESSFUL

He said that most evangelical Christians and pastors, including prison chaplains, simply do not know how to witness to and evangelize people who are "caught up" in Islam. "Estimates of conversions in the U.S. run as high as 30,000 to 50,000 each year," said Dr. Morey. "In fact, for several years, requests for our materials and training sessions from prisons have been growing faster than our financial resources. It is heartbreaking to have to say 'no' to some of these requests.

PROJECT TAKE BACK

Dr. Morey has announced the launch of Project Take Back, which is a special program to go into prisons and conduct training seminars for Christian inmates through the Chaplaincy programs.

He said that in a seven-hour Project Take Back seminar, "we can prepare these men to be effective evangelists, witnessing especially to Muslims."

I did a search on "islamic conversions in prisons" and came up with dozens of articles, most from this year. This one is especially good.

We need to start looking seriously at these prison conversions. They are forming an army, not a religion.
