Although Fox saw ratings for Game 4 of the World Series drop 22 percent below those for the comparable game a year ago, the 4-3 victory of the San Francisco Giants over the Anaheim Angels Wednesday night guaranteed that the series will go at least six games (and could go seven) and will, if nothing else, allow the network to fulfill audience guarantees to advertisers and thereby avoid having to give them "make goods" to offset the ratings fall. Wednesday night's game averaged a 12.4 rating and an 18 share in prime time vs. a 16.0/24 for last year's year's fourth game between the New York Yankees and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Although the game won the night for Fox, NBC, which countered mostly with reruns, produced surprisingly strong results, recording a 10.1/14 for The West Wing and a 13.5/20 for Law & Order. ABC also managed to attract a large female contingent for its The Bachelor, which, with a 10.0/14, almost beat out the West Wing in the 9:00 p.m. hour. (CBS, however, was pretty much out of the race with The Amazing Race, which scored a 5.7/8 in the same time period.)
The good news is, we were down 29 percent from last year with Game 2, and 26 percent with Game 3. We must be making progress!
The better news is, we're still down from last year!
We had the local news on and right after that runs Entertainment Tonight --- normally, I switch off the tv instead of watching that crap, but was busy, so I didn't.
Shortly into this program, my interest was back to the tv when I heard that the WEST WING (known better to Freepers as LEFT WING) was in trouble --- BIG TROUBLE.
They are losing viewers big time... and the guy on said this will MAJORLY hurt the LEFT WING's chances of renewal next year because it is such an expensive show to have on.
Wishing this report will prove true.. Just had to share.
