Nolte had a reputation as a heavy drinker for years, once describing himself as a "functioning drunk." But in the mid-1990s, he reportedly quit alcohol and became a fitness buff.
As a matter of fact, the night Nick was arrested, he had just finished a workout where he was lifting weights 12 ounces at a time.

Giving up alcohol, in favor of mind altering chemicals doesn't work. "Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic" is a phrase from the big book of AA.
Relapse is, unfortunately, all too common. There are quite a few long-term abstinant (recovered) alcoholics, among public figures and entertainers.
Anthony Hopkins, Eric Clapton, Steven Tyler are a few of the better known ones. "Recovered" means you don't do ANY alcohol or drugs. It does NOT mean that since you only had a drinking problem, it is okay to do drugs.

Tests indicated Nolte had elements of the banned depressant gamma hydroxybutyrate in his system, she said.
His shyster will try to drive a Mack truck through that. Either the bartender or the bar maid slipped him a mickey and was going to rape him later. Fortunately, Nick was able to escape with his virtue intact only to be profiled by the CHP.

Yep. That's quite a pic there. Looks like ole Nicky had himself one heck of a night.

You're right, giving up alcohol and getting into club drugs is not the way to go.

That pic freaks me out, looks like something that washed up on a beach in Malibu. Nick has fallen and cant get up.
