Moose: Can't Communicate Electronically with you
Fox News ^ | 10/22/00 | Fox News

Posted on 10/22/2002 4:18:38 PM PDT by Koblenz

Mr. Moose just held another news conference. Said the Police Department couldn't communicate electronically with the sniper in the manner he requested. What a mess.

The police said call back to get an 800 number or a PO Box.

That's what my mom taught me years ago - "If 'they' think that 'they' can do any better, then let 'them' try"...

We don't know what's going on behind the scenes - I say give him a break, too. Sure - he is in over his head - but let's give him a break.

All Moose wants is the media attention.
Yeah right. I'm sure he's loving every day of this, coming out to the crowds and repeating some comments written by the FBI that make him seem like an idiot.

All those ready to take over for Chief Moose raise your hands....that what I thought. Give the man a break.

You're right. Let's give the sniper 10 more kills...

Secure and anonymous communication via the internet is a simple matter. There are several ways to receive messages without revealing yourself (Hint: it doesn't necessarily involve the use of a website). Conversely, there are ways to send a message to an email address while obscuring the point of origination.

If Moose is talking about exchange of email messages, I suspect they are trying to discourage this method because it would indeed be untraceable.

However, an 800 number is the least anonymous: the calling number is automatically delivered with the call, and there's no need to do a trace.

How about hiding it in a pumpkin at the old Hiss farm on the Eastern Shore.

With a Willie Pete grenade, too? :o)

The real questuon is, are the authorities agreeing to give this sniper money? We give him a million bucks and then what?

Then they stake out the post office box or drop off point for the money and grab the sniper. That's why they said that they cannot wire the funds to him. They're not going to really give him the money -- just use the money as bait in order to reel him in.

They are trying to get the sniper to communicate in a manner that is more likely to reveal his identity or location.

Disagree. They can determine exactly where his computer is from email communications.

Please see post #57 and #47. Thanks!

HNO, I agree with you, I think that is it very important that the reporting done here on FR is extremely clear and meticulous, particularly in this case.

"Sounds as if LEO's might be willing to pay off the terrorist/murderer."

Maybe that is why Maryland is heading this investigation. The U.S. has a policy of not negotiating with terrorist. However, Maryland has no such policy in place.

I agree with you 100%.

I believe Chief Moose is in way over his head.

A couple of our special forces with backup support could do the same to the chief.

These guys are very good at what they are doing and they are able to blend in.They have killed 10, shot12 and got clean away each time. They have not left any clues they didn't want to.
I believe the money demand is to further confuse the issue.

if you think Moose is still in charge, you might want to check the IQ test.

he might be running the local stuff, but this has probably been out of his hands since the letters started or sooner

I don't think they are talking about exchanging emails.

I think they are talking about transferring money.

Could VERY well be... one could assume that, if this is a terrorist cell, they may be running low on funds in recent months...

Something to consider, anyway...

The sniper might be able to send off email (bounce it off an open relay) but there would be no way for him to receive it without being traced.

This is not correct. I can think of at least two ways to receive a message without being traced. One is fool-proof, while the other is almost impossible within the time it would require to complete.

I think they are talking about transferring money.

I've been trying to figure that one out. I can't decide if it is the Chief's chronic mangling of English syntax, or if it is an obtuse reference to something beside "communication".

Before you say that people are overly critical of this man, listen to him speak.

Good grammar skills are not necessary to do good police work. Neither you nor I have any real way of knowing, based on the sniper case, what kind of police officer Moose is. Most of the details of this case are being kept under wraps, so it's impossible to judge him based on the unknown.

Moose has a double digit IQ. He is illiterate have you heard him speak? When this sniper is shooting in two states why the hell is Moose still in charge?

It's hard to judge someone by their speech patterns. I think Dubya is extremely competent, but I still cringe sometimes when I listen to him in an off-the-cuff speech. I don't care for black dialect either, but I've heard very competent folk use it... if you figure out a way to convince Dubya that "newkular" sounds illiterate, maybe you can try the same argument with blacks who continue to use "axe."
