Mr. Moose just held another news conference. Said the Police Department couldn't communicate electronically with the sniper in the manner he requested. What a mess.

The police said call back to get an 800 number or a PO Box.

He grew tired of the highly charged political conflicts with anarchists, kids in black, and left this highlt liberal town for his "nice quite post in suburban East Coast Virginia. He probably would trade to get his old job back these days. I feel sorry for him. I like the guy and have chatted more then once with him here. I hope this mess ends well with the sniper's head on a pike.

So, if the shootings "aren't about violence" , then what is the shooters "cause"? If he/she/they aren't doing it just for fun, then what are they doing it for?
There's been reports they want money, but that doesn't sound like the " about more than violence" thing.

I have been listening to Chief Mooses words carefully. He speaks slowly, like he is talking to somebody who doesn't understand english well, and chooses his words very carefully.

Moose has a PHD (I know, piled higher and deeper), and he is walking a very fine line here. Most of us are frustrated cause he won't tell us anything, but not sure he can do it without spooking the sniper.

People are scared. They need a target, but the sniper is a yellow bellied coward and not availible. Moose is indeed suffering a scapegoat role to a degree.

But he is the sort who never seemed ego bound. I am betting he is not irritated at some of the angry retoric sent his way anywhere near as much as he is towards the sniper. He has his priorities straight. I have confidence in him.

This whole scenario is straight out of Dirty Harry. To quote Harry: "When are you people gonna stop messin' around with this guy. He's gotta be stopped NOW."

The only thing missing is that this guy isn't getting any simpathy from the press.

As an aside, I'd consider lending my S&W model 29 to Chief Moose if I knew he'd use it to cap this killer (and if I knew I'd get it back).

Just for the record, I think it's a combination of two things that make him the target - one, he's a democrat, and his connection to the Clinton's and Janet Reno is guaranteed to cause an instant dislike of him among most freepers ;0) ... and also the fact that the frusration with the sniper makes him a convenient target...

I wouldn't want to be in his shoes... of course, I wouldn't have wanted to be in his shoes when he was a chief in Oregon either ;0)

He may be competent, but he is not being effective. As I said earlier in another post, he is coming off very weak. We do not need to see the world see us in this light. There needs to be others up at that podium. It is not an easy situation but he cannot look as though he is the only one in charge. We all know he is not but it is really looking rediculous. Almost, embarrassing. If it's not international terriorism, they may be getting some ideas if this is how it appears to handled.
