As someone who loves their dogs to distraction, I send my heartfelt sympathies. We live in a remote area with LOTS of wildlife and our neighbors were losing pets to cougars, coyotes, etc., right and left. But then we got an Anatolian Shepherd and since he's been on patrol in our large fenced yard, not only have we not seen any of these predators, neighbors for about a half a mile haven't either. Not only is he a great deterrent for predators, he is the biggest baby in the world and I'm afraid we love him way too much.

I was wondering what kind of a dog that would be, I like Retrievers, especially Goldens and so I found this:
Ottoman's Empire was killed defending the granddaughter of Bob Stevenson in a confrontation with a bear that decided to come toward her as she was playing with Otto on the porch at their family retreat. Both the dog and the bear died as a result of the defense. The best of vet care could not repair the damage but they will be forever grateful that Otto protected his friend and playmate, Emma, with his life.
