History deals only with study and interpretation of the RECORD of the past. That is, we see the past through the eyes of the historians who study what others chose to write down.

History is not the same as the past, just as the news is not at all like my own experience. It emphasizes the sensational, evil, criminal, and disasterous events. Neither is properly a source of the study of human nature, because it deals only with the exceptional people doing extraordinary things. Normal people rarely make an appearance in history or the news.
