LOL! That is priceless! I have a suggestion: put a pointy witches hat on top of the pumpkin.

MARTIN'S PUMPKIN PRESERVATION POINTERS:
- Wash your hands and tools with anti-bacterial soap before carving. This keeps out bacteria that rot the pumpkin.
- Cut the bottom out of the pumpkin instead of the top. This helps retain moisture, and makes it easier to put on top of your light/candle.
- Spray the finished pumpkin with Lysol spray -- also kills off the cooties.
- Keep your pumpkin in a cool, dark place. A refrigerator is great if you have room.
- Keep the pumpkin covered in plastic wrap when not being displayed, or better yet, recycle a plastic grocery bag.
- Coat the cut and peeled areas of the pumpkin with Vaseline. Be careful not to get it too gooey, or picking up your pumpkin may be an adventure!
- Don't keep your pumpkin lit unless you're using it. Otherwise the pumpkin can "cook" from the inside out from all the heat.

That should do the trick....that's enough to scare anybody..just remember to put a strobe light on it.

Thanks heaps. I just lost a good Grandy's breakfast of scrambled eggs and bacon that I paid 7 bucks for ;)
You did give me one good idea - we usually take some pumpkins out to the area where we go to shoot for target practice. The sight of a pumpkin disintegrating from 00 buck at 50 feet is something to remember. Looks like we'll have some new targets to use to sight in our rifles this year ;)

I've done this before - it does help noticeably. However, I've found it causes another problem. When the pumpkin finally decides to decompose, it really goes. Like from something that almost looks normal to a pile of sludge overnight. It's rather disgusting.

Except in the sniper areas.

one more pumpkin carving tip: i have found that an electric skill saw (? - you know, the handheld thingie with the small blade that protrudes about 3 - 4 inches) is just the ticket for fine work.
