Posted October 19, 2002
...Although various polls have suggested that the governor's race is close, a new survey showing Bush with a 9-point lead over McBride gave cheer to the Republicans on Friday.
The poll by McLaughlin & Associates of Alexandria, Va., done for U.S. Sugar Corp., shows Bush with 49.2 percent to McBride's 40.5 percent, with the remainder undecided. The margin of error was 4 percent. Six hundred people were surveyed by phone Wednesday and Thursday this week.
Jim McLaughlin, the pollster, said Bush was running solidly ahead in all parts of the state except South Florida. The results contrast with a Zogby International poll from last week, showing a three-point lead for the governor....

Republicans are often rhetorically challenged. Jeb Bush, however, is not. I appreciate so much his eloquence and his principled stands on the issues Unfortunately, I have rarely been able to hear Jeb Bush speak; I am aware, however, of his principled stand on the issues, this comes through, loud and clear.

The liberal "Independent Florida Alligator", which is basically the school newspaper for the University of Florida (even though technically unaffiliated) had an editorial on the first debate in which they basically said McBride offered nothing of substance. This newspaper is about as left leaning as you can get, so it was quite shocking. Jeb! actually had the editorial on his homepage!

What a great story you have! I hope you'll add it to Gov Bush's web site.

summer, did you know that while McBride attended UF he was student body president for a little while...but there was some kind of fraud discovered and they had a new election and McBride was voted out.

same here. everyday when i read the orlando slantinal and they treat mclawyer like a viable candidate, it makes me sick. mcbride is just about the worst candidate i have ever seen in my life. he's a complete moron, and he knows nothing about government.
personally, i think the media is just lying to itself to make it feel better. no voter who actually hears mcbride could vote for him.

Re your post #64 - Yeah, I read about that. BTW, Donald Stone, I thought you said McMumble would not be able to hold office? What's up with that?? :)

It is encouraging that left-leaning students could figure out that McBride offered nothing of substance in debate #1, isn't it? Gov Bush's good heart showed itself in that debate, along with his well thought-out positions on issues, and a strong record of accomplishment. I've seen videotape of Jeb campaigning in Puerto Rico (in a large stadium) for his dad back when 41 was running for President in 1980. Jeb's legs were shaking, and I thought about what courage and commitment it took for him to make that speech. The heart is still there, and it's exciting to see him doing a great job as Florida's governot.

Thanks for the links, I will peruse them later today. Right now, I've got to go run a couple errands. Hope you have a good day. And thanks again for your responses and posts; I enjoy reading the truth about Jeb, which I know I'll never see printed upstate NY.

Every once in awhile, some brave reporter will point out the OBVIOUS and ask WHY anyone would want to vote for McMumble since all he says is "HEY, LOOK AT ME! I'M NOT JEB!" As if this should rile up independents and undecideds in this state. I don't think it will.

Do you know where I might find the results from the 1998 election - Jeb vs. McKay? I can't imagine that anyone who voted for Jeb in 98 wouldn't vote for him again.
(Other than a few Freepers!)

I received a telephone call one evening this past week that was a recorded message from Barbara Bush reminding me to get out and vote, and to use the absentee ballot option if need be. I am a registered Republican in Okaloosa County, Florida. Any other Republicans in Florida get the same telephone call?
I guess Jeb is calling out the "heavy artillery". I don't think it panic, it's just leaving nothing to chance. Registered Democrats outnumber Republicans in Florida by more than 300,000.

Thanks for the links, summer. I've got to run now, but I hope you'll keep us all posted on the campaign. This good man needs to have the opportunity to continue to serve as Florida's governor.

McBride is his own worst enemy.
All you have to do is see him and listen to him and that will be enough to make you want to vote for Jeb. He is the closest thing to Homer Simpson in this year's election.
The best thing the Democrats could do to help him would be to ship him to someplace like "Gilligan's Island" where he can't be seen or heard until after the election.

Matthews has kept kept up this drumbeat all week that Jeb is going to lose. His theories are all over the place-Blacks don't like his education policies, The child welfare system is a mess, Democrats want to get even for the 2000 presidential election. He always has two people on-pro and con-for Jeb. Then he tells the person against Jeb-you're right, the other guy is wrong. I hope Jeb wins by a landslide and Chris Matthews is crying in his beer on election night!
