Timeline: from humble beginnings:

From the first jet flight of the Heinkel 178 testplane on 27 August 1939 to the first flight of an operational Messerschmit Me-262 jet fighter, 14 July 1942...thence to the MiG 15, F-80 and F-86 fighters going about their business in the Korean War.
