PICO RIVERA, Calif. (AP) - Authorities are trying to identify dozens of people from a videotape that shows a vicious brawl following a youth football game in which one man was repeatedly kicked in the head. The tape showed young children, teenagers and adults taking part in a wild free-for-all after a Pop Warner league game in this Los Angeles suburb on Saturday. About 25 people were involved in the fight.
No one was arrested, but Los Angeles County sheriff's Lt. Irma Becerra said Wednesday night that investigators were reviewing the videotape, which was recorded by a bystander. Authorities said no one was hospitalized but one man was knocked to the ground and kicked repeatedly. The tape was played Wednesday night on Los Angeles television stations KCAL and KCBS.
"They had us way outnumbered," team parent Desi Tubbs told KCBS-TV. "They separated anybody who wanted to get in there to stop the fight and beat them up. It was about five or six guys." The president of one of the teams, Dick Engels, said he saw a 9-year-old girl hit. Engels himself was shown on the video being knocked down, and he appeared on TV Wednesday with a deep cut over the bridge of his nose.
Some parents complained there had been heavy drinking by adults during the game. A message left after business hours at the Pacific Coast Youth Football and Cheerleading League headquarters was not immediately returned.

Both my kids played Pop Warner and it was a great experience for them and a lot of fun for us as parents. We stayed friends with other parents as the kids played all the way through high school. It is a good thing.
Unfortunately, there are a few wacked-out parents who get out of control. They are of the same tribe that riots after championships or jumps out of stands to attack baseball coaches. Lock 'em up!

Oddly, we don't have these problems here. I'd be concerned if this had happened in the US, but since it happened in California...

I coach a Pee-wee team, and I thought it was bad last week when I had to ask one of the parents to quit (justifiably) berating the ref for bad calls!
Just another reason I am glad I live in a smaller mid-western town.

Pico Rivero was a barrio 40 years ago. I hate to think what it has become now.

Where are the pics? Anyone have a screen capture from the video?

Wow, did you see that bald headed guy. Decks one guy, kicks and punches the other guy that was down. What an animal. Get him off the street. He should be in jail.

"He should be in jail." I expect he is one of the first to be arrested. What an animal.
