Attention Virginia Voters

Hampton Roads, Don't be Deceived

Recently in the mail I received a flyer from the Yes Campaign, espousing the virtues of the proposed sales tax increase to fund traffic problem fixes in the Hampton Roads area. This flyer was a very well put together deception.

I choose the word deception because when I consider the way they presented their points, I had no other word to put to it. Simply stated, every one of their pretty little points was either a mis-statement or a flat out untruth. Consider the following:

One of the points stated that in order for a timely hurricane evacuation to occur, more roads should be built. Excuse me, but don't we know several days in advance of an approaching hurricane? Besides, I want you to sit back and imagine a hurricane coming. Even with more roads, can you imagine it going smoothly, or would it be more like the present day HRBT on a Friday afternoon?

Another point made was that more roads was a way to lessen the traffic burden on the area and bring more tourists in. Thats like saying "there will be less cars per road and we will get more cars in here." Boy, that will really lessen traffic, won't it? The only thing that more roads will bring is more traffic. This only stands to reason. We will be paying for a bigger problem.

Another selling point for the Yes Campaign was that mostly tourists would pay for it. I doubt the veracity of this statement, but even if it were true, it reveals the type of character I would rather not be associated with. "It's okay, someone else is paying for it" goes against the hard working American grain.

Once again a tax is presented to the people as being the all in all solution. This is typical of Democrats. I side with Ken Johnson of WNIS who said the real problem in Hampton Roads is not the amount of cars, its the (lack of) quality of the drivers.

I have not brought out every point in the brochure because I don't happen to have it here in front of me, but I encourage Hampton Roads voters to take a hard look at it, because it reeks of political deception.

Northern Virginia has a similar 1/2 cent tax increase on the ballot to pay for "improved transportation"--wish I could vote NO over and over!

Is there any organized resistance to the YES vote? If it passes in Hampton Roads & No. VA, it will jammed down the rest of The Commonwealth's throat in 2004. I haven't heard anyone making much anti-tax increase noise.

There are a few "no" signs around No. Va---the anti-tax movement is the grassroots voters and volunteers. Unfortunatly many of our No. Va Pubbie leaders are speaking out in favor of the tax.

The biggest problem has always been Richmond Va., a city which lives by stealing from Northern Va. and trying to poison the rest of the planet with cigars and other tobacco products.

Oh yeah, Richmond goes around holding guns to peoples heads and forcing them to smoke. I have to run the red light by Phillip Morris every day so they can't catch me and make me get hooked to the evil weed.

The truth is the welfare weasels and DC scum that live in NoVA have run all the tobacco co.s out of the state excepting Phillip Morris, therefore they have destroyed a huge tax paying industry. All the traffic problems in NoVA are directly related to the leeches sucking on the Federal DC teat while destroying the industries that fund everything. What does NoVA produce other than more BS laws and taxes?

Nothing but a bunch Fed employee transplants from other parts of the US and illegal Arab aliens up there, paying no bills, just digging in the working citizens pockets in every way they can think of.

The best solution to the NoVA problem would be for DC to annex all the real estate north of Spotsylvannia Co. Then the DC parasites could fund the road projects out of the whole country's pocket instead of the people in VA south of Spotssylvannia who actually work for a living .

I've got a bunch of folks in Southside Virginia willing to write in "Ollie" for the Senate. Need to get the "Ollie for Senate" thread up and bumped.

Check this out:

Hornberger for Senate

An old libertarian activist, couldn't get the Party's nomination and is running as an independent. If I were still in the Commonwealth I'd vote for him

I made up my mind NOT to vote "yes" on this ref. a while ago, dude...

The state wastes money left and right. It has plenty of programs it can cut-- admin, arts, bullsh!t like that... I read in the papers everyday about how we're going under. Bullsh!t. Restructuring, people-- that's what it's gonna take... Restructuring the budget. That's it. Things that need to remain priorities are health care and law enforcement-- the rest can go.

Raising taxes is nothing but a quick fix, and one that'll bring the lower to middleclass of VA down even more than they already are; most of it will go to recarpeting somebody's third office suite, and the rest will go to some byway or highway that nobody wants to use anyway. Raising taxes ain't gonna do nothin' other than give all the dems hardons. This p!sses me OFF.

The best solution to the NoVA problem….

A better solution would be for all the crooks in Richmond to stop stealing all our money.

The truth is the welfare weasels and DC scum that live in NoVA

You are a fucking idiot. I guess you think all the military up here are welfare weasels and scum?

All the traffic problems in NoVA are directly related to the leeches sucking on the Federal DC teat….

So I guess you think all the tech workers in Northern Virginia walk to work? Those would be the workers who send all that tax money to Richmond. Who do you think pays for your welfare check?

Raising taxes is nothing but a quick fix

I listened to Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chairman Katherine K. Hanley on the radio the other day. She said the EPA prevents Virginia from building new roads in Northern Virginia because the DC region has failed to meet clean air standards the EPA set.

So, if this tax increase passes, no additional roads can be built. The tax increase will go to fund existing projects and mass transit in Northern Virginia.

Vote NO!

You are a fucking idiot.

How articulate! This is a response that rates a reply.

I guess you think all the military up here are welfare weasels and scum?

Always the exception, the only folks up there who are performing a useful function. And they were ordered to come here, not coming in like a bunch of cushy federal do-nothing job seeking sponges. Those I know who get sent to the Pentagon hate it and are hoping to ship out as soon as possible.

So I guess you think all the tech workers in Northern Virginia walk to work?

They should, they need the exercise from sitting around doing nothing and eating donuts paid for with my taxes. And where are they commuting to? DC. And why are they working in the beltway? Because their jobs are all related to federal handouts, just like our carpetbagging DimRAT Guv who came to The Commonwealth on the coattails of the leftist Chris Dodd and was granted a cell phone welfare handout for all his left wing butt sucking. Besides, most are laid off now, and those who aren't will soon be.

Those would be the workers who send all that tax money to Richmond.

What tax money? NoVA costs more than it puts in. Nothing but crime, illegal aliens, and 10 useless overpaid federal bureaucrats doing one persons job up there. Lay off 9 out of 10 of the deadbeats, deport the illegals and voila!, you have plenty of open lanes.

Who do you think pays for your welfare check?

When you start sending me one, I'll shut up.

Thank you. I'm so sick of the arrogant DC leeches sponging everything out of the economy. Ninety per cent of DC workers are just useless sponges trying to lord it over everyone else. They are useless busy bodies who couldn't earn a real living if they had to compete.

Dependence on government seems to be a unidirectional phenomenon.

As in ancient Rome that trend will continue until the taxpayer goes extinct.
