The other beltway shooter
townhall.com ^ | October 16, 2002 | Michelle Malkin

He struck during morning rush hour. He used an AK-47 rifle. He killed two people and wounded three outside the CIA headquarters in Langley, Va. Then, he slipped out of the country and eluded authorities for four, long years.

He was the other Beltway shooting spree killer: Mir Aimal Kasi.

On Jan. 25, 1993, the Pakistan-born Kasi opened fire on commuters as they sat in their cars waiting at a stoplight outside the CIA complex. He gunned down Frank A. Darling, 28, an officer in covert operations, and Lansing H. Bennett, 66, an intelligence analyst. Darling's wife, a CIA logistics officer who was in the car with her husband during the monstrous rampage, described diving to the floorboard when the shooting began. Judith Darling looked up to see her husband shot in the head, with "skin hanging everywhere."

Kasi (who also went by the surname "Kansi") later said he committed the capital murders in response to America's "wrong policy" toward Muslim countries. He said he didn't know his victims. And he wasn't interested in claiming credit or glory. He said he simply wanted to punish the United States for its role in bombing Iraq, its involvement in the killing of Palestinians, and the meddling of the CIA in the internal affairs of Muslim nations.

Next month, Kasi is scheduled to die by injection in Virginia for the brutal killings. As law enforcement officials search for the unknown sniper or snipers responsible for the latest shooting spree in the Beltway area, it's worth remembering the Kasi case for the motive and means. We cannot afford to ignore the role that lax immigration policies have played in abetting bloody terrorist acts against innocent Americans on American soil.

Despite his history as a known Pakistani militant who had participated in anti-American demonstrations, Kasi entered the United States with a phony business visa in 1991 and overstayed. Next, he invoked the magic words -- "political asylum" -- based on his status as an ethnic Pakistani minority, and was granted a stay and work authorization.

While his asylum claim was pending in a system that remains backlogged and fraud-ridden, Kasi found a job as a courier, obtained a driver's license in Virginia, secured Social Security documents, purchased an AK-47, and then murdered the two CIA agents and wounded several others in broad daylight. The day after the shooting spree, Kasi fled to Pakistan from Washington, D.C.'s National Airport.

In an interview with a Pakistani newspaper, The News, he said: "I knew the area well and had surveyed it before and that's why it was easy for me to slip out after the killing." The manhunt for Kasi, who took refuge in Pakistan and Afghanistan, lasted four years. He was finally taken into custody along the Pakistan-Afghan border in the summer of 1997 and brought back for trial.

At least one crazed Middle Eastern gunman has sought revenge on behalf of Muslims by gunning down Americans near the nation's capital and slipping in and out of our country with murderous ease. Could it be happening again? Why not? The entry and exit doors remain wide open to Kasi's fellow travelers.

Correction: In my last column, I misstated the caliber of the bullets used by the unknown Beltway-area sniper(s). They are .223-caliber, not .22-caliber. Thanks to all my readers who quickly spotted the error.

I agree with the thoughts in this article & have believed from the start that this is M.E. terrorist & does not need/want credit as the profilers keep saying. Close our boarders NOW!

I recently saw the story about his crime and capture on TV and it was incredible how the US arrested him and smuggled him out of Pakistan.

The US even had him transported in a military jet which could be refueled in air, so that he couldn't land a foot in another country and seek asylum.

Beltway shooter? What's the connection between either of these shooters and the Beltway?

Now that an FBI analyst has been killed, maybe the feds will now be similarly energetic in stopping the current killings.

No one is safe or will be safe as long as there are any amount of Muslims allowed in this country. The question becomes are we willing to tolerate this extreme change to our peaceful lives and accept it as how we and our children will live in the future, what we will consider "normal" every day life?

Or will everyday citizens demand that this religion and creed of death to anyone that doesn't submit be thrown from our shores forever?

I forsee a big switch by a ton of voters from both parties for the right third party candidate who isn't afraid to issue a few EO's.

Thanks for posting this. I had been saving some data on this Islamakazi who killed the CIA people in the CIA parking lot.

There is a poster on FR who posts that we have never had an invidual Islamakazi attack and kill Americans in such a manner as the current sniper is doing.

This murdering Islamakazi's story did his murders during the Clintoon time. The left wing mediots the Compost and NY Slimes and of course ABCCNNNBCCBS or just ABCNNBCBS, the rat tv net buried this story.

Well, while I'm inclined to think the current shooter is Al Qaeda, the M.O. is definitely different from any previous serial killer:

Single victim, single shot, .223 round, planned escapes... serial killers don't use semi-auto rifles, and rifle killers go on single episode sprees with multiple victims.

The differences in this case and the timing (given the imminent war) and the nearby vicinity of DC and a local mosque are what lead me to the Al Qaeda conclusion, though I could be wrong.

I was not aware of the proximity of the mosques to most of the shooting sites until a Freeper posted that data. We know that their role models in Israel use mosques to hide in and operate out of and sometimes will hole up even in Christian Churches.

We don't know who the shooters are. They could be America's finest on Ritalin/Paxil like most of the punk murderers of innocent American school children the past 10 years.

If the Ritalin/Paxil group is not involved, I would say that we are dealing with some graduates of an al Fuqra group like the former group that lived near Fresno until we exposed them.

There are al Fuqra groups all over the east coast within hours of DC. Most of these al Fuqra encampments/centers had target ranges. They were not practicing and sighting in their weapons to hunt wild turkeys or Bambi.

The Fresno Group has disbanded and the al Fuqras are gone. Of course the big question is where did they go with their weapon firing skills?

Most of the al Fuqras are home grown, and many were recruited by so called Black Muslim Ministers while they were in prison. After parole, they became Black Muslims and often moved to live in an al Fuqra encampment.

There is a Al-Fuqra compound at Red House, VA about 2.5 hours south of Fredricksburg, VA

Good morning and thanks for your link and map to the nearby Virginia al Fuqra thug/terrorist encampment. Please post the link to your famous first thread on the al Fuqra Group near Fresno, last year.

Freepers need to know about al Fuqra, our home grown Jihad in America potential Islamakazis. Al Qaeda will probably not be the real inside threat to America. The home grown graduates of Black Muslim who went to al Fuqra will be the biggest inside America threat.

And al Fuqra is funded by Jamaat al Fuqra, one of the octopus of Jamaat organizations funded by elements within Pakistan's ISI that are friendly with Al Qaeda and the Taliban.

Hey... the first Beltway Shooter was from Pakistan. Nice circle, huh?

Before this is over we will see a whole lot of circles connected.

Of course the left wing fishwraps and their buddies in the tv net controlled by the DNC, ABCNNBCBS, will never connect the dots.

They will carry Bravo Sierra Stories about how the evil Israelis killed an innocent Hamas Terrorist Leader with an exploding public phone. He heard that he had won the lottery and went to answer the phone to claim his prize. He got what he had earned.
