I think you will notice that they have plans that include world market suplies etc. They are not asking for a hand out, just time work their plan. What is your problem with them trying freemarket solutions? Would you prefer they go out of business and your money go to China? We are not talking about the farm bill or subsidies here. We are talking about time given to growers to restablize a historically stable market. I'm wondering if you even read the article.

Actually, I was addressing the NAFTA comment more. As for the article, my problem is with a GOVERNMENT bailout. Why not private insurance farm companies, ect? I know it's too late now, but our system needs fix'in, BAD.

According to Mr. Shubin, when you buy raisins you get a "mixed" bag. The ones he provided were all top quality. It did make a difference.

No but there is a wealth of information on the web site. The book is worth the read.

Thanks! If anyone here wonders why "Two Buck Chuck" is so cheap, its because Central Valley growers needed to do something with the excess grapes.

Don't know much about the raisin industry, but Central Valley growers have for years been dependent on demand from "Jug Wine" makers (this is Carlo Rossi/Gallo Port country). In the past, these comprised the majority of wine produced in the state. Now that Americans are demanding premium wines from Napa/Sonoma/Mendocino and the coastal areas, growers in the Central Valley are in alot of trouble.
