I thought I had read (on FR) that in one incident he missed the target entirely and fired a second time.

With the right ammunition and if a shooter takes adequate precautions, a .223 rifle would have little if any muzzle flash even without a flash suppressor. The flash only lasts a fraction of a second to begin with, so unless someone was looking right at him, they probably wouldn't see it anyways..

I took my 22 long rifle outside and discharged it with a 22 short in the chamber. I was surprised by the produced muzzle flash, granted it doesn't have a flash supressor, nor does it use any where near the gunpowder of the smallest .223 cartridge that I can think of. The flash is so bright and apparent, I believe it would attract attention, even if just glimpsed with peripheral vision.

I find it ironic that this shooting happened at a Home Depot, a large contributor to HCI.

Training? It now takes "training" to exercise a little common sense? Has our education system sunk this low?

Jeeezzzzzz! Anyone who watches CSI, or any of a dozen cop shows, or has more than three brain cells would know not to leave evidence without specialized "training."

Here's an idea:

Place 30-50 temorary high resolution video cameras along the main arteries of the interstates. This will allow the vehicle to be caught on tape and might give a hint as to :

1) Owner, from the license plate

2) Exact vehicle description so people can keep a look out for it.

3) Possible identification of this twisted killer.

I have a eerie feeling that the sniper will give us a few week-ends of false security...so folks will wait until the week-ends to do their shopping.

Then when the malls are jam packed (filled) do something dumb like they did here on 911 or at Bali.

If there are numerous cells located around these areas (like the one map shows) a few car bombs at all the malls in the area could kill thousands of folks.

a previous post mentioned that Michael, the Arch Angel, was considered to be "one like God"....this sniper guy left a Tarot card with words written " I am God"........Michael is also considered a defender in times of war......who knows, perhaps this guys name is Michael.....or the group is the michiavellian sect of muslim interests.

"Harder to make a quick escape on weekends..."

I kind of lean towards the 'plan their next attacks on the weekends' theory.

It would probably be harder for store security, sales personnel and customers to spot them 'casing the joint' with the distraction of the weekend crowds.

We'll have to wait for the book, made for tv movie and major motion picture for the definitive answers to a lot of these questions. ;^)

Nothing jumps right off their webpage as a reason for terrorists to target Michael's. Are they known as strong supporters of Israel or anything that anyone knows of?

I think "prosaic" might be the word. Michael's is where a lot of American hobbyists, mostly women, shop. Hobbyists are leisured Americans, like characters out of a sitcom. Home Depot is the "Home Improvement" image, mostly menfolks and gardeners.

Before one gets too creative with archangels, looks to me like going after symbols of middle-American consumption.

Other likely targets--outside MacDonald's, or a church...

Hell this guy is probably in Kentucky or Ohio by now. He left to much of a trail this time(if what I'm hearing the news is true). If he's got a brain in his head, he's ditched the Astro van and headed for parts unknown in his Yugo.

IMO if they were Al Qaeda, automatic weapons would have been involved long ago in a very crowded venue, and the perp(s) would be smoking in hell. I would use Israel and the Palestians as an example of known radical/fundamentalist moslem methodology. They are in a too much of a hurry to get to their aleged virgins to be this patient. It is a badge of honor for them and they want the world to know just who is resposible.

By using their aides in the media to promote the theory that the shoots were committed by a 'white, male right-winger', they cause the residents to hate and fear their fellow citizens.
