I've known for years that it was called Londinium.

I'll bet most people don't know that London has been in existance for that long. If you visit there you can still see parts of walls and other traces of the Romans, preserved right there in downtown London.

The Romans established it, and then the city became uninhabited, didn't it? And later reinhabited.
