Leftists and how they view Corporations when they are contributing to war efforts
For instance a person on this site posted how Bell Air Industries and Brown and Roots benefited off the Vietnam War from Government contracts. But I would like to make one point clear, The Pentagon for soley military purposes hands out contracts to corporations who can provide it with the weaponry that fit with a current war fighting doctrine or need of the military during wartime. The relationshi is not the other way around. The Pentagon acts first always(as history has proven)out of a neccessity for equipment or technology to fight a war.
Also there is another point.
Why should the military waste taxpayers money on building bases when civilian contractors can do the job? The upsides of this dealing are enormous. The military gets to save money to spend on more worthy projects, the civilian contractors(not all of the time)sometimes can make money, therefore helping the economy, by expandins and hiring, and last but not least, valuable military resources like Army Engineers can be freed up to do other more important tasks.
As for Bell Helicopters, in the early 60's at the start of the Vietnam War, the Pentagon came up with the concept Air Mobilility for 11th Air Assault Division "Test" Division. It's commander was Major General Harry William Osborne Kinnard. The 11th "Test" was then conformed with the 1st Calvary Division. Making the 1st Air Calvary Division active.
Major General Kinnard had a role in the developing of the concept of Air Mobility.
The large military for US forces against Communist forces of the Vietnam War was in the Ia Drang. The success of this battle determined strategy for American involvement until 1968 when General Creighton M. Abrahms took over the reigns from General William Westmoreland.
The Pentagon realizing the success of Air Mobility decided that Vietnam would essentially be a war that would rrequire quick mobility of forces and one assest we could use were Helicopters besides Trucks and Jeeps. The 101st Airborne Division, 173rd Airborne Brigade, 1st Air Calvary Division, and Marines were equiped with Helicopters. Hueys, Cobras, Chinooksand other helicopters were deployed through-out the Vietnam War, reaching their peak in numbers during the peak of the fighting from 67'-70'.
The Pentagon of course could not magically produce such magnificent aircraft, so they signed Bell and other corporations with aircraft skills to produce these fighting machines. As the tactics of war change so do the weapons and so do the contractors who make them.
The war after 68' was won, despite some liberals and leftists claims. Much of that victory in part to the Heliborne cpabilities. In 72' after all but the USAF and and a few thousand advisors remained, the NVA which was all that was left-the Hanoi created and backed NLF/VC terrorists were virtually non-existent, and only capable of minor engagements that were weak and sparse, launched a major offensive on South Vietnam. The Offensive was named The Easter Offensive. ARVN Marines distinguished themselves in taking back Quang Trang Province, and other ARVN forces did also escpecially those who fought at An Loc. The ARVN was looking like a real Army.
But 2 years after the Easter offensive, Leftist Democrats cut off funding for the anti-communist ressitance in South-East Asia, doing what the pro-Hanoi "peace" movement couldn't do. The Leftist Congress of 1974 after Watergate, and coming to power because of it, succeded in fulfilling the leftist wish that the Communists would win. The ARVN ran out of bullets and 4-6 million people have been murdered because of it.
500,000 to 1,000,000 in Laos 1,000,000 to 2,000,000 in Vietnam Boat people, Montanyards etc. 2,000,000 to 3,000,000 in Cambodia
But American intervention saved Thailand, Indonesia, and the Phillipines from the Democidal Communists the anti-American "peace" movement wanted to win.
What about rubber tree plantations? LOL remember that one anyone? LOL
