This guy likes gas stations. Strategic reasons or political ? It does offer a number of strategic advantages because the target will be still while pumping gas.

FWIW, I think I'll pump my gas with my head lower than the car. They should at least bring back the locks that allow you to leave the pump. This should be done immediately in that area.

All of the locations - except maybe the school, not familiar with that area - are on major access roads. Big 4 lanes with tons of traffic.

Easy in and out, lots of covering noise and background to blend into.

Get your gas off the beaten path.

According to reports I heard on the radio, this victim had just paid for his gas and was returning to his car.

Good question. Don't forget michael's craft stores.

You don't have the gas pump locks in your area? Do you mean the little latch that allows the handle to continue pumping the gas without you having to hold it? We still have those here if that's what you mean.

Gas stations provide a stationary human target with a nice, metal background for contrast. Makes for an easy kill, I would think. Plus, they're usually near major intersections, meaning the crook can make a quick exit.

One of the things that I noticed while looking at the overhead shots of the shooting locales, was that most were in 'urban sprawl' type areas. Areas of new development where nothing had been just a year or two ago. I saw one of the posters on one of the earlier threads mention something about an enviro-whacko, and that came to mind. Of course the shooter may have chosen this area just because it was easier to find a line of fire, and then escape undetected. One thing that I am certain about, and that is that this shooter(s) has chosen his locales before hand, and now is merely going tot he areas he is familiar with.
