Who needs exspensive, over-weight hybrids with $3,000 batteries. This is a much better car!

These are being offered to suicide/murder bombers now, right...?

They would probably by the base model, fuel mileage wouldn't matter much to them!
To: John Jamieson
You were wrong, it was only adequate.
LOL!

And the fine print states that it only gets 100 mpg when you have a 12# mongoose driving and no passangers!

Something that I had always wondered about was why they didn't just make a little diesel/electric car, sort of like train locomotives. A small, twin cylinder diesel motor, turning a generator, supplying power to electric motors.
It seems pretty simple, really.

Thanks, I couldn't remember how to do that.
Not a bad looking little box, kinda of a modern "Volkswagon". I think I'd buy one if they were around $15,000, but I couldn't figure out a price.
To: MarkL
But not efficient compared to direct drive. Also too heavy and expensive. Ever seen a 100 horsepower electric motor?

Nice coffin.

I suspect that the German EPA tests are just a good as ours. Your mileage may vary.
To: Jeff Chandler
You might like the larger models that only get 50mpg.

I own a 2002 New Beetle with the 1.9 l TDI, went to main used half the fuel I did with my Jeep (50-55 MPG)and the ride was smoother, neat little car.
Beats the hell out of flying.
Don't have a family and don't even have a dog now, perfect car for me.
Don't knock the TDI technology out of had.

I had a diesel Rabbit for about ten years. It was a great car, handled well, was comfortable and quite roomy for a small car. Only problem was that diesel stations are few and far between, so you have to learn where they are.

I'm not knocking at all, I think it's great and this country needs much more of it. Our car companies can do the same thing. They're just going to have to be shamed into it.
